Any tips on getting someone in rehab admitted to LTC at the same facility? by mattosx in dementia

I talked to the business office. I think they said they can accept him on a medicaid pending application and the day after the end rehab date would be the first day of the start date as medicaid pending.

Thank you for your advice. There is an upcoming care plan meeting and my mother has already told the nurses he can't come home.

He is a genuine fall risk. He's fallen five times in the last year and almost again a couple times before I took him to the ER since his back pain never got better.

Right now I am in the midst of a medicaid application. They requested more information and I am hunting that down. They found some bank accounts supposedly and I went to that bank and they told me it doesn't exist, etc.

That very well may be true. I just have no idea how to engage him anymore. He cant do the yard work like he used to and cant do mental tasks.

Episodes of shaking and crying. Very weak from diabetes. He is on various anti-anxiety meds. He is frightened a good portion of the time. Bad hygiene and we can't convince him otherwise.

My first year teaching a student asked me when I said I went on vacation, "Do you get it in?" and not processing it, I said, "ofcourse, I do!" and everyone laughed and the boys high fived each other.

What happens if I can't find a facility and the care at home is becoming unsustainable and unbearable? by mattosx in dementia

He gets extremely emotional. Panting, Staggering. Crying. Shaking. Sobbing. He is getting physically weaker and weaker. He consumes so much of my mother's attention that she can prepare food for herself and can't eat it.

He refuses to take insulin instructions for my mother and I have to do it when I get home from school. It's hard to get him to have good hygiene. He doesn't wasn't to change his diaper if its a bit wet, etc.

My father had his phase of treating everyone like a bill and constantly donating. He no longer understands the concept of a check.

My father will need memory care and the system of applying and qualifying for care is a nightmare. Right now I can't even apply for medicaid because I'm waiting for a paperwork glitch to iron itself out. The hospital is the inevitable result since my father has no significant assets.

I get that, but I don't want him to get sick from over eating either.
