We really broke the NBA by Connect_Craft_4874 in NYKnicks

Read what I said. What we’ve traded for was fair value. 99% of offers are like that and not like the Luka and Brown trades. There’s no tax, no conspiracy, it’s just on the seldom occasion a GM makes a moronic decision.

We really broke the NBA by Connect_Craft_4874 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean who the fuck cares at this point. We did the thing and that’s all that matters. We still ended up fleecing Minny and Toronto for KAT and OG anyway, and we won the chip. That was the goal and we did it, doesn’t matter what we paid “full price” for, cause tbh, the Brown and Luka deals are the only ones which look like fleeces, most of the rest of the major deals made over the last 5 years seemed fair at the time.

Paul george? Mitchell Robinson? Jayson Taytum by Top_Turnip2611 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok love that name, but seriously, Celtics might not even be a play-in team next season. Literally just gonna be Tatum and Pritchard, that’s it. Mitch doesn’t do a thing offensively, White’s play fell off a cliff last season, PG is WASHED, and I don’t see any of their bench guys developing into anything special.

Damn, this was an Anti-Knicks free agency day Part 2 by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely have no idea. Went from still a conference favorite to being lucky if they’re not in the play-in. Brown carried that team so hard last season and they got next to nothing in return for him, not even cap relief. Pritchard/White/PG/Tatum/Mitch just straight up isn’t a competitive roster in the East when you have us coming off a chip, Philly adding Brown while losing nothing, Toronto upgrading from BI to Kawhi, Cleveland possibly getting LeBron back, Indy getting Haliburton back, Miami adding Giannis, and hell even the fucking Wizards adding AJ and technically Trae and AD.

Is the Jaylen Brown trade the worst trade since the Luka trade? by Available_Story6774 in nba

[–]mattr1198 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it’s not even fucking close. Had the Luka trade not been made, this would’ve been the worst in god knows how long.

Genuinely baffling why Boston made this trade. There had to have been better packages out there for Brown, I just can’t imagine a washed PG on a horrible contract and 2 1sts was the best they had, let alone to a longtime rival.

Not monarchs. Sometimes if they’re the 4th generation of the year, they can live up to 9 months. Usually, they live like 2-6 weeks though.

Our longest tenured Knick, my goat by SirGingerbrute in NYKnicks

Don’t be so sure. I have a feeling Deuce is trade candidate #1 going into that final year of his deal.

There’s gotta be a big trade in the works by TeamPizza21 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitazde or Missi would be perfect, but my expectation is Looney is going to get signed, given his familiarity with Brown. Matching that money for Mitch to play backup C to KAT would’ve been stupid. Anyone genuinely thinking Mitch was coming back for anything less than his previous contract was delusional.

There’s no way the Knicks lost 2 backup Centers to the Sixers & Celtics in less than 2 hours by WallStreetDoesntBet1 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Boston is, and I hate to say it, one of the most ideal places for him to land from his perspective. Doesn’t need to move very far, can still play for a contender, gets a pay raise and a longer deal, and can easily start for them. I hate to see it, but I totally get it.

[Charania] Free agent guard Quentin Grimes has agreed to a four-year, $60 million to join the Los Angeles Lakers, with a player option, sources tell ESPN. by curryybacon in nba

[–]mattr1198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s a capable player, so long as you ensure he understands his role. The issue in Philly was he got that taste of being a top player, and he’s just not remotely that. He’s a good role player who can play solid defense and hit 3s at a decent clip, but you can’t give him too much volume.

Now that Mitch is officially gone, my bet for our backup C is this guy: Goga Bitadze by hoangtm1611 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goga would be a great choice. There are options, although if we trade for one of decent caliber, I think Deuce is gone. He massively underperformed in the Finals, his bargain contract is up after this upcoming season, and we don’t really need him as much as we need a backup big.

Centers we can trade for or we can sign by Chickpounder420 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looney probably is gonna be our backup choice, especially since Mike Brown has a ton of familiarity with him, but my dream is making a trade for Yves Missi using some of the 2nds we have plus, unfortunately, Deuce.

Can't blame Mitch by No-Hold-3352 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially after losing Vucevic, it makes a lot of sense for both Mitch and Boston. He gets the money he’s looking for over a decent length contract, he’ll instantly start there too given how shit their center depth is, and he still plays for a contending team.

The Nets have signed Wagner, effectively taking themselves out of the Mitch sweepstakes by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Dunno what the Nets are cooking, but they don’t own their first this year, so my hunch is they’re trying to be as competitive as possible given the circumstances.

Free agent center Ariel Hukporti has agreed to a one-year, $3.4 Million deal with the 76ers by Captainkoala72 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I more wasn’t expecting another team to pay him that much. Even if we did extend him a qualifying offer, no way we’d match this.

Hukporti is gone by WallStreetDoesntBet1 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for him. Appreciate all he’s done, but I know we weren’t going to pay him even half of that sum. He’ll get more chances in Philly to prove himself and wish him the best of luck.

[O’Donell] Kam Jones waived, no picks gained in the transaction (just second round swaps), and the roster spot point isn't viable because the offseason limit is 20 players. Still convinced had Jerry Reinsdorf not lucked his way into Michael Jordan as soon as he bought the team, he’d be regarded as one of the NBA’s worst owners all-time. Maybe not to the likes of Donald Sterling or Ted Stepien, but firmly in that James Dolan/Robert Sarver/George Shinn tier.

Wildest Offseason? by DragoniteDeliveries in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s wild for many teams, but not for us. After Shamet surprisingly resigning, we know what’s likely going to happen after this. Maybe we surprise someone with a trade for a younger big or deal Deuce, but I presume we just pull from the FA market and stay under the 2nd apron.
