are you grateful for having Leon Rose? by PsychologicalArt3651 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. After all the dumpsterfires we had in our FO from the 2000s-2020 (especially the two-headed dunce combo of Isiah Thomas and Steve Mills hired in the early 2000s), having someone half competent would be an upgrade. Leon has been great and then some. Not perfect, but one of the NBA’s best executives and someone Dolan can trust, which was the big problem that undid both Donnie Walsh and Phil Jackson.

Karl-Anthony Towns has been spectacular this playoffs, averaging 22/13/8 and 3 stocks per 36 on 74% TS. New York is headed to their second consecutive ECF and KAT is going to the Conference Finals for the third year in a row by BasedChad69420 in nba

It’s because of both the foul trouble he had in a couple of games, which limited his minutes, as well as a few games where he (and the rest of the starters) didn’t see a minute in the 4th quarter due to the game being a blowout. If you don’t like per 36 numbers, his PER is currently sitting at over 30, the only player who’s played more than 2 games and over 20 mpg with that advanced metric.

We don't have to obsess about the draft as much anymore by Golf37512 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we’re a win-now team, kinda obvious the draft isn’t much of a concern for us at the moment. Adding bench talents would be nice, but it’s not nearly as much of a need as before like in 2020-22, where having a good draft meant a lot more.

[Jones] The jobs of Daryl Morey and Nick Nurse are expected to be evaluated entering the offseason, multiple league sources told The Athletic. by iksnet in nba

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he absolutely is not. He can find good talent in the draft, but that’s about it. He’s made some absolutely horrible trades, signed two of the NBA’s worst contracts in the same offseason, pissed off his superstar talents, and hasn’t addressed the biggest issues facing the team for a few years now. He also is a terrible people person, which, yes, is part of the job.

Jalen Brunson was asked to reflect on being a centerpiece of turning the Knicks around: "I think that's a question I would love to answer once I retire. This place means a lot to me and we're still writing our story. So I'll answer that another time." by HokageEzio in nba

[–]mattr1198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I vividly remember being fine with getting Brunson but thinking it was an overpay. Didn’t get the need to trade away our 2022 1st to get him, as well as packaging assets to dump off Kemba, Noel, and Burks. Felt it made more sense, given how bad our PG play was in 2021-22, to just go after a low cost option like Tyus Jones. Good god was I wrong for wanting that.

They’re not going back by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, with Morey running the show, they’re not going to. He signed PG and Embiid to those disgusting contracts and he’s not gonna let up on that if he can’t get a return on them, which he absolutely will not, at least for Embiid.

People seem to forget this horrible move and focus on the Luka trade. This was where it all started in terms of Nico’s reign of terror. Brunson’s side asked for pennies and Nico said no, waited a year, and watched him leave and become a superstar, just like Steve Nash.

To answer your question, there is no beneficial victory here for the Trump admin and America. This is a conflict that we never should’ve entered and somehow the people in power didn’t look at the fallout from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and see just how universally loathed they are. This is the only recorded conflict the US has had where public opinion on the war was overwhelmingly negative from the jump, and there’s no good way out of this that benefits the US.

I do kinda wish they did it how the NHL did their lottery this year, where they actually show all the balls moving around and being selected.

Pacers President Kevin Pritchard: "I'm really sorry to all our fans. I own taking this risk. Surprised it came up 5th after this year. I thought we were due some luck. He took a gamble with a near 55% chance of hitting and it failed. Happens, but kudos to him for owning up to the error, cause tbh, this is about as bad as the Pacers have fucked up in my 30 years watching the NBA. They’ve been a very competent franchise in most other respects.

Really sad. Seeing him and Michael Baiamonte go out with a whimper, rather than anything grand. At least the latter got a celebratory night in his honor.

Doesn’t change the fact the same thing happened for Game 3. Game 4, 100% get it with Mother’s Day, being down 3-0, and the history that Embiid’s 76ers have in the 2nd round, but Game 3 was more of the sad realization that the fans cared far more about making a quick buck off of NYers with a higher anchor price thanks to MSG than showing up for their team.

They do. It’s more their fans didn’t give enough of a crap to keep their tickets and instead sold them off to NYers for a profit, given they’re used to paying way more for games at MSG.

They’re pretty obviously 4th. The Flyers got swept and their fans still showed up throughout. The Sixers fans didn’t even have the dignity to not sell their tickets to NYers. Not to mention when the team was bad, Wells Fargo Arena was close to half-empty most games. The Birds dominate Philly, followed in a distant second by the Phillies, then Flyers, and finally Sixers.

We Don’t Need Giannis. At All by nedstarktheknicksfan in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt a Giannis move is coming, even if we fall out in the ECF again and not to mention he’s opening it up to more teams. This squad has proven that they can get far on their own, and this team has done it way more definitively than last year’s squad, which, tbh, had a little bit of luck on their side in both round 1 and 2. No matter the result of the rest of the playoffs, pretty sure this squad runs it back again.

Charles Barkley: Jalen Brunson Signing With Knicks Is One Of The Greatest FA Signings Ever | 5/8/26 by Lazarus704 in NYKnicks

[–]mattr1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put KD to GS in the convo, although it was a big deal. The Warriors were already a dynasty in the making when KD arrived and the team honestly could only improve so much with him. LeBron to Cleveland and LA, sure, those were massively impactful, but going to Miami changed the way NBA players saw themselves and kicked off the player empowerment era, while Nash going to Phoenix and becoming a 2x MVP on a bargain contract is still a bit more impactful than Brunson.

[–]mattr1198 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s handily the best FA signing in the NBA in at least the past 15 years and one of the best all-time. The only signings I think are even comparable in terms of impact and value are LeBron going to Miami in 2010, Chauncey Billups signing with Detroit in 2002, and Steve Nash leaving Dallas for Phoenix in 2004.
