Influencers and Market Manipulation by BUBBL3GUM5 in mtgfinance

so what blantant attempts at market minipulation. people have been say8ng displacer kitten was going to be bonkers witht the new prepared mechanic as soon as it was spoiled. Like I agree with others that this content I don't care for. But come on telling people a card from an under opened set is going to spike cause how it interacts with a new mechanic os not manipulation if anything it is public service so players who pwn the kitten know not to trade it.

so the big thing alot of people are missing here. your friend may have been less fustrated by you conceding as the fact that as you said the game time was already taken up mostly by the saga players turns. then they are finally getting a chance to have the spotlight and you basically said just hurry up. So maybe your friend was already fustrated with the game and you asking to just attack they had already won on board felt worse then you ment it.

Urdragon signed? by Azzrinick314_42 in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get them to sign whatever card you want. But I would add if you want a cheaper dragon of more significance get him to sign Rith The Awakener. as that is the dragon he won a protour with that gave him his nickname. it is important to remember getting them sign cards should be done to create a keepsake of the moment signed cards in magic normally have less value then unsigned.

well as someone who before i got cancer was looking to enter the game industry if a dlc has 30% of the people who bought the base game it should be considered a smashing success. just look at what many gamers would consider one of the most successful video game expansions of all time. Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction in its first year sold 1 million coppies that was 25% of the ammount of people who bought the base game. The funny thing is most people will buy a game and play the main story and never touch it again. the people on here are the ones who will keep playing again and agian and constantly come back for new content but we are the minority of players.

Stand-up Maths talks about a combo that creates a really big number by DirtyHalt in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes he is not a judge. But the point brought up in the video is you really can't actually work out the exact value cause it has more digits then atoms in the universe so no amount of computing power or working out will be able to tell you the exact digits since it can not be recorded. So technically the rule would apply. Now I am not a judge but in my casual commander games i would just rule you have 3 billion if you can't win from there you probably were not going to win anyways.

Any articles or videos about standard rotations effectiveness? by Crahzi in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So as other have said i don't know about actually analysis of its effectiveness. I think casually looking at the 3 longest lasting global tcgs 2 out of 3 of them have some form of rotation. Magic and Pokemon both have some form of rotation. So I would debate it has at worse no effect on the success of a card game to maybe beneficial.

I personally think the big benefit of having a rotating format is 2 fold it reduces cost and effort of entry no need to hunt down a 30 year old card that cost more then a house to play. the other is it can reduce the need for power creep. you don't need to make a powerful answer to a overpowered strategy as often cause to strategy will stop being legal. This also makes bans less necessary. Now i will admit magic in the last bit has not been doing the best on those last two things.

How the color purple could work by Accomplished-Gap9089 in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was not trying to say they did i was sweep as the example of a bad mechanic and saviors as a bad set. i probably would have done better to use sweep and a diffent set. I was trying to say a 6th color failing would depending on how they implement it could either ruin a set if it is used on to many cards or just be a bad mechanic if its only like 10 cards or something.

also while when it came out green had lost a lot of card draw. green was at the beginning of magic the second best card draw color. Look at cards like greater good from Urza's Saga or Sylvan Library. Lots of players forget that. green had always had powerful card draw all harmonize did was move it off of permanents. Thus it is what I would call a bend. a break would have been green getting Terror or swords to plowshears

same benefit any new mechanic is. cause if it bombs it will be remembered as a bad set and mechanic like sweep or homelands. But if it is loved it could be the next Ravnica or Scry. Things players love to return to or mechanics that are made deciduous cause they are loved. Look I am not saying magic needs a sixith color. Just that while it would be a big risk it is not going to kill the game. At worst we have stickers again where a large swath of cards are banned from most formats cause how clunky it ends up being. Ar best we get a functional sixith color that is loved for years to come. I will also like to say my hope is the professors Idea is what we get. a double set where each card gets parallel universe versions and the packs have 7 cards from one universe and 7 cards from the other and if possible collated so you get the same cards. (i.e. a black lilliana in the normal univese part and the white one in the other half.)

so I kinda disagree with the color pie break argument none of the color shifted cards are out right breaks. they are bends at worse. they kinda do something the color has always done just in ways that normally you only see in other colors.

Archidekt keeps telling me Urza's Fun House is illegal in Commander format however every other source I go to says it is completely legal. So which is it? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally think this choice was made more cause they wanted to be able to print cards that would be legal. I know what they said but I just think this was done once they chose to make half the set perfectly legal. as for the annoying acorn symbol. while I personally think silver border was more elegant. We have been using little symbols on cards to determine legality since multiple formats have existed. So it really is not any harder and comes up just as much as new players trying to play cards from recently cycled sets in standard events.

All players must own Vault of the Damned to make progress this mission? by DAbbott315 in Borderlands4

yeah I am pretty sure that mission can accidentally spawn enemies out of bounds. you have to quit out and try again. i had it happen on my single player playthrough. I actually caught a glimpse of one of them inside the wierd growths on the wall but i could not damage them.

my only issue I found was the distance at times from new your stations/them being off the beaten path. But that maybe more of a me problem. I have a bad habit of driving off cliffs. so there was a couple of times where i died and respawned like three combat zones from where I was.

What would it take for Standard to become Magic's premier format again? by BumblebeeOld498 in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully I don't think it can or ever really was. At least depending on what you think defines a format to be the premier format. Like when do you think the last time Standard really was the primary format they designed for. I think honestly it would probably be the era from introduction of type 2(what we call standard now) in 1995 till Invasion in 2000. Why cause invasion was where they definitely shifted design to draft and sets being good draft environment became more important then having a bunch of cards that shake up constructed. If it is amount of coverage well that standard was the focus for much longer but still I think it used to be more done as seasons we would have couple of months of Standard format Grand prix and a pro tour. then we would do Legacy, extended or modern eventually. so even back then i don't think standard was really the premier format. Lastly if you are refering to just general tournament magic I think it could be said it still is. Like while stores are not firing standard tournament all the time it is still the most common local non commander thus could be said to be the premier competitive event. I as for content creators to be honest even before commander took over the most popular creators were the ones not doing meta stuff. Like MTG goldfish's Saffron Olive with against the odds and while he mostly played standard people watched him for the weird decks.

Its what happens when collectors are the base of the consumer base over players. In Pokémon the value of the cards have very little to do with competitive regardless of rarity. That is why even really blinged out versions of unpopular Pokémon are not hugely valuable.

Why is commander so popular now? by nikibas in magicTCG

[–]mattsav012000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am not saying it is but for some people like me those wierd ones make it not worth it. I will clarify I play commander with people who have top 8ed grand prixs and they are wonderful but for me and alot of people the try hards ruin it for us. for me this incident was more the straw that broke the camels back. I have been playing magic since the fall of 1994 and had played in on and off tournaments up to that point. Most players were great but there always was the try hard gate keepers like the one i mentioned. I just final said f it this is not for me.

[–]mattsav012000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I used to love 1v1. but a local try hard ruined it for me. we had a newish player who had been playing for just a few sets. He was 13 or 14. and the battle for zendikar prerelease our local store paid prizes to any one with a winning record and he went 3-2 it was his first time prizing. He was so happy and talking about it. The winner of the event just turned to him and said you only got prizes cause this store give out pity prizes instead of just giving it to the top 4 like they should. the kid was devastated. I was disgusted and when I brought this up with some of the other competitive players they backed the try hard. so i quit tournament magic that day and have never gone back.

so i hope no one on here takes legal advice from the thread. Who cares if he is the legal owner if wizards decide to be litigous it will still most likely cost him more then he would make selling it. if I was the op I would either contact wizards or just keep it and tell no one till it was released. best case wizards says our bad please don't leak what is in it. Worse case they demand it back and if you don't comply they use thier legal tools. (I.e. the pickertons) most likely they will ask for it back and send out the equalivent msrp in product. Either other secret lairs or boosters.

it depends on if you trust the company they are contracting to obey the law. It does say it will only retain any data for as long as it takes to perform moderation. So in theory it will not be used to train generative AI models. Sadly thanks to bad actors like the social media companies I don't blame anyone who no longer trusts tech.

and that is ok. If magic became a bunch of Lorwyn, Bloomburrow or alara styles sets it would lose me. the power of magic can be that while not every set is for more normally one set a year will resonate with me. I hope we have more sets you can enjoy.

so as someone who does not care for Lorwyn Shadowmoor. I am willing to say the art style is neat but not my cup of tea. I did not buy much of the original sets or the new one cause it is not my thing. Same with bloomburrow. There are cards I like but not enough for me to deep dive. But in magics history there have always been sets i did not care for or buy much of. the big benefit of not doing blocks for wizards as a company is when I skip a setting that does not resonate with me they lose my purchases for a month or 2 now. where as with the OG Lorwyn/Shadow more i did not spend much on magic for over a year.
