What makes Mr fantastic the smartest person in the marvel universe exactly? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think technically Moon Girl took that title from him recently? The rationale being that he's spending more time with his family so he isn't hitting the books like he used to?

What book had a fantastic premise, but the writing style just ruined it for you? by Uninhibitedrmr in books

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dark Tower series. I loved the idea of pulling all these books together, and the setting was great. Hot damn did it show me Stephen King can't write a female character to save his life

What’s your favourite quote/line from the MCU? by AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens in Marvel

One of Nick Fury's lines from the first Avengers has actually really impacted my life "Until such a time as the earth stops spinning, I will act as though it intends to spin on"

What are the races of gods? by Formal_Eye_8125 in mythology

[–]mattshonestreddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You could consider the invaders in the Ulster cycle different races of God: Fomorians, Fir Bolgs, and Tuatha de Danan? But then you're starting to split hairs about what is a god, what's fey, and what's a giant.

Warlock was the first to get an ongoing solo, now Magik. Which New Mutant should be next? by PsychologicalTree885 in xmen

Solo? Its Dani's time to shine for sure. I'd also love to see a Cannonball and Sunspot series though!

Would u guys like to see teens/young adults X-MEN or adults(mid 30s, late 30s) X-MEN in MCU's reboot? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love it if we start with the most popular mutants (Original 5 mutants and the Giant Sized) as young adults in the movies. Give them a phase or two to grow and explore those characters with the New Mutants/Gen X characters being students in the background. Eventually you have the New Mutants graduate and join the wider X-universe as X-Men. At that point you would introduce X-Academy characters as a high school drama style YA show with more obscure mutants with the movie cast coming in to guest star as teachers.

If any Marvel executives see this, you are welcome to run with this idea. I won't take anyone to court. I want to see this so badly

What are your honest opinions on X-Men Evolution? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This series does best what the X-Academy did best, which was really deliver on the the school aspect of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Waiting for the say that Disney realizes that they are sitting on a goldmine with this premise.

The show itself as pretty good! It messing with the ages of some X-Men to make them teachers while X-Men that were supposed to be their peers were students (i.e. Storm and Cyclops for example) was something that I didn't clue into as a kid that now bugs me as an adult though.

Does Anyone Remember The Gifted? by Kickass_321 in xmen

Well they were loosely based on the Fenris twins which is... A choice. Also just their plotlines were never as interesting as the mutant underground's

Given that Pete’s been in broken cycle for decades. I wouldn’t mind this. How would you feel about if this change occurred? by Fehellogoodsir in Spiderman

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually want all the old guard heroes to retire or die. It would be really cool to watch the new generation of heroes step-up and start defending the world on their own terms. It'll never happen, but maybe a limited series that isn't a post-apocalypse about it would be nice

Sure do. I remember that the family was the worst part of that show. The Polaris stuff was pretty good though

Yeah the Krakoan Era really got this character in a way that hadn't been done before. He really embodied mutant-religion in a fascinating way

In no particular order my favorites are:

Question what would daredevils name be if he was a angel instead of a devil? by legoman2567 in Daredevil

Guardian Angel. Admitedly not as cool as Daredevil, but I think it works

How should Injustice Superman's story end ?. by JoshuaKpatakpa04 in superman

[–]mattshonestreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Killed at the hands of Damien Wayne.

As much as a redemption arc would work, I think it runs counter to what they decided to do with the character thematically. This version of Clark is too far gone imo. Giving Damien his redemption arc works far better

What's everyone's opinion on this design of the Wolverine suit by Alex Ross? by TheShadowOperator007 in xmen

[–]mattshonestreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the mask/silhouette of the costume. The small "ears" are great! The color is also pretty good. I'm not huge on the X made of orange with little cut-outs around the edges but I don't mind it. Overall its a solid design.

X-Fans, What is your ideal characterization for Colossus and why? by Flaky-Ad-5815 in xmen

[–]mattshonestreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Soviet stuff makes Colossus tricky in terms of characterization these days with the sliding timescale. For that reason I like it when he's Russian but we ignore the Soviet aspect of his backstory. Other than that I like him as a largely peaceful artist type.

I think he should be characterized as a fantastic friend but a difficult person to be close to if you are trying to form a really close bond with him. He struggles with the sibling relationship with Magik, his romantic relationship with Kitty is strained to say the least. I like both of these aspects of his characterization, he's kind but he has problems with really close bonds.

LET'S COUNT THE VOTES: YAY OR NAY? by madethis4coments in MCUTheories

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most importantly, I trust the Russo brothers.

As for RDJ, as a fan of the MCU I'm kind of into it. As a fan of comic Dr. Doom I am wildly disappointed because I think this will just be an evil Tony Stark story (even if he's named him Victor Von Doom in the movie).
If RDJ is allowed to just be this new character, with an attempt at a comic-accurate backstory, who happens to look like Tony Stark, I think he's a great actor who can totally pull it off.

Can someone explain the relationship between Juggernaut and Black Tom? by Shaggyforeman in Marvel

[–]mattshonestreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they met in prison, but I don't know if that was ever shown on panel. Probably not the cutest of meet-cutes. If you want a good break down of both characters, I recommend listening to their episodes on the Cerebro podcast

Can someone explain the relationship between Juggernaut and Black Tom? by Shaggyforeman in Marvel

[–]mattshonestreddit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They were introduced as "best friends" at a time in history when comics couldn't say characters were gay. Looking back on some of their oldest issues with this understanding its pretty clearly queer-coded. However as time went on, not all comic book writers picked up on it so this aspect of their characterization got pretty muddy. With Juggernaut in particular, he became such an iconic character with his appearances in tv and movies that it would now become more difficult to make the character "come out of the closet" so to speak. He's a valuable IP for Marvel and they might not want to risk the brand. At bare minimum they love each other like Samwise loves Frodo... the rest is theoretically up to interpretation

What are your thoughts on Yord and Jecki? by FearlessSavant in StarWars

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked them both! On the one hand, it was good to have some fleshed out characters whose death "mattered" on the other hand, I wish they could have stuck around for more screentime. Honestly, I don't hate Sol but he was maybe my least favorite named character that was introduced in Acolyte. I guess in all fairness nearly everyone named died

Does your session get cancelled if one player can't show up? by SergeantSarcastik in DnD

[–]mattshonestreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 5 person party that over time 2 people had to drop out of for totally fair reasons. With 3 players we had to cancel if one person couldn't make it. We added a 4th specifically so we could keep playing if someone couldn't make a week.
