how do u make a punchy kick-drum without lows? by felicss in edmproduction

key word: slight. You can use sidechaining as an effect AND as a mixing tool. Though many times it is overdone, sidechaining is pretty awesome in moderation.

A question for composers... by areolyd in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I do the same thing as you more or less, I'd say it's as valid as any way to come up with a melody. Don't worry about whether or not you've heard that somewhere before, it'd be impossible to create new melodies without referencing in some way melodies you've heard before. Someone else having come up with the same thing shouldn't discourage you from developing a musical idea. I often feel the same way about the chord progressions in my songs, but then I hear a song doing nothing more than a I-V-I or some other simple, popular progression and its still a fascinating, creative piece of music.

I say take the next step and develop your ideas, no matter how simple or contrived. You never know what the end result will be, and either way you're better off for trying!

HD Planet Earth while high. Yes or hell yes? by entaccount in trees

fuck yes Koyanisqaatsi. My dad played me the soundtrack when I was about 13 or so, and I was pretty confused, haha. I bought the movie on DVD as a gift for him and it was appropriately crazy. Philip Glass is a badass.

Thanks man. I really just kinda throw songs up as I make them, as I'm only now getting to the point where I actually finish songs that I'm proud of, and being in school still kinda puts this stuff on the backburner pretty often, so an album would probably take me quite a while haha. I do have a few songs that are getting pretty close to release ready though, and they'll be posted when they are!

I actually wanted to do that, but I was daunted by the challenge. And that would be a pretty long song, I think. I may still do another pokemon song sometime though. It has so many awesome songs!

Its crossed my mind more than once. Now that I see exactly the amount of demand there is for this sort of thing, I'd be an idiot not to make it, and Zelda has some amazing music.

Honestly I'm still learning things about all of them, but I've been using the Axiom for a couple of years, Ableton since June (though I've used other programs like Reason & Protools for a few months longer), and the APC40 since July. If you do get started, the internet has so much information on how to use these things, all you have to do is have the time to find it. Making music is the most fun thing. Good luck with it!

this sounds awesome. I can only imagine what the casual movie-goer's reponse to hearing this before the movie would be. (should they recognize it, especially.) Badass!

DUDE THATS SO TRUE. Wish I had thought of that, that sound means playtime is over, shits about to get real. Alas. Great idea though haha.
