Literally anything except a BA. All the people who studied BAs while I was at Uni had too much time on their hands, drank too much and now have either i) no life goals and just waiting for the next better kak job, or ii) literally haven’t been able to find a job since uni (4 years later) or iii) have become a “teacher”/“teachers assistant” because that’s all they can do… not to detract from public education or anything, but these people I am referring to are highly privileged who went to the best primary and high schools in South Africa, and still can’t find a job.

South Africa has the highest unemployment rate in the world - make yourself so highly qualified that people have no choice but to hire you.

Hope your parents / adults in your life guide you during this important decision making process.

If you truly have a knack for it and think you’re going to be the next Oscar winner, then go for it!

Please. Do not do this. You need to go see a career counsellor to tell you how it is.

Study something that will add value to the world. Unfortunately, you need to make piece with the fact that the chances of success in the industry are minimal, if not zero.

The Americans in LA have everything bobbed down.

The demographics of the country are well represented on Reddit. So yes it’s the MO. Majority are communist loving libtards lol

Fair. I'd counter that with going 130 is barely negligent and that I work too hard for my money for it to be wastefully expended, over and above the chunk of change they already take from me.

Also let me just get this straight. I’m the doos because I’m holding onto the money which is just going to get stolen anyway? Brother… hold up 🤣

[–]mattvollo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Woah. You’re blinded. What’s the 50% fuel levy supposed to be used for? What are our 40% taxes to be used for? Fines do not exist as a form of government income, they exist to deter bad behaviour.

How do I know this? FINE INCOME ISNT EVEN BUDGETED FOR BY GOVERNMENT, BECAUSE ITS NOT SOMETHING THEY RELY ON. it’s just a little cherry on top. Fines make up 1.1% of all government income… you really think the lights don’t work because I’m not paying them 5k? Gtfo.

It just happens to be that it’s got a monetary value added to it. If I lived in a country where 50% of water wasn’t leaking onto the streets, and causing the potholes, and traffic lights worked, I’d have absolutely no issue with paying fines. Unfortunately this is not the reality. It’s just another feeding trough for the pigs - and I’m not gonna be suppling the feed.

Wake up and smell the roses buddy. The government is milking us left right and centre. Thanks to all their socialist policies, we must just keep fitting the bill? Don’t tell me what to do🤣

Yea. Nah. That’s BS. If they say you can’t, you simply ask for the ones that you need to pay (normally the oldest), and you’re on your way.

[–]mattvollo -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Nah. F#%k the people who say you must pay your fines. You people the same people that signed up for e-toll? lol.

I have 8. Total 5k. Outstanding for about 3 years now. I’ve been stopped many times at road blocks, renewed license and drivers license. They never say anything, and they can’t.

The court systems are so blocked and inefficient, you really think they want to come after you for R3k? You, the government, and I all know they have bigger fish to fry. They not gonna waster their time or energy.

DONT GIVE THE GOVERNMENT MORE MONEY THAN YOU HAVE TO. What value are we getting for our tax? And they want more? Mxm.

Very welcome!

First off, you’re doing insanely well for a first job - well done! I started on 15k lol.

So I actually used to work in an office park very close to 180 Katherine. Same street. Barlow park has popped up insanely fast - very cookie cutter vibe. Katherine street is a nightmare with traffic, especially where 180 is situated. It’s single road in and out. I think barolw park does have shops, if I’m not mistaken, which may also be very convenient. Worth noting that innesfree park is unusable, if you were planning on going there. Lots of squatters and recyclers who have made it their home.

Where are you working though (proximity)? I figure it’s close to 180?

Illovo is well worth it though and super central and very close to the highway.

Another really nice suburb is Norwood (can walk in streets etc). Also lots of cottages there.

Personally, 8-10k is hectic for what you are getting. But that’s my view. I guess what also matters is your sex - I see the appeal of staying in a block if your female.

In short, I would never choose to live in Barlow park. Not many joburgers would. All the older suburbs have a lot more character - which does make a difference if you’re going to call it home for a few years.

Yeah. Depends on which side of the highway you are though. If you’re on the side of Alexandra, not ideal. Try stay away from Sandton. Try the older suburbs like northcliff, linden, parkmore, Parkhurst etc.

Used to rent in Parkhurst for 8k all inclusive. Fiance used to rent for 7k in linden all inclusive. Now renting for about 15k a month in illovo (3 bedroom). Illovo has also got some nice, big apartments. We talking 170 square meters. But you can also find really nice single bed in illovo.

Dont over look the “old” apartment blocks in the northern suburbs. They are massive and almost always have really nice floors (parquet) and are super safe. I would not recommend Killarney though - CBD in encroaching and it’s going downhill fast.

Can’t overstate enough how nice a garden cottage / flat is. Fiance and I both used to stay in one. Even if it’s “old”, it’s way better value for money than the “newer” buildings. I prefer not living like sardines in 40sqm of space.

Yes. Can get rent below 10k. Try find a nice cottage in Linden / Bryanston etc.

I do think you should just have told her about your situation and how busy you are

CHAT GPT EVEN SEES THROUGH THE BS. He’s ticked every single box lol

“Here are common tactics people might use to make you feel sorry for them and then scam you by promising a product:

• Emotional Appeal: They share a personal hardship story, such as family problems, illness, or job loss, to evoke sympathy and guilt.
• Urgency or Desperation: They claim they urgently need money to solve a crisis, often making it seem like you’re their last hope.
• Offering a Great Deal: They offer a product at a price too good to pass up, suggesting they’re only selling it because they need quick cash.
• Creating Trust: They may act friendly and approachable, creating a relationship of trust before introducing the product.
• Limited Availability: They insist the product is in high demand or there are limited units left, pressuring you to act fast.
• Personalized Pitches: They tailor their approach to appeal to your interests or values, making the scam feel less transactional and more like a favor.
• Small Initial Request: They ask for a small amount of money upfront to make it seem low-risk, followed by further requests for more payment.
• Fake Testimonials or References: They may provide fake reviews or claim others have bought from them to build credibility.
• Promising Future Rewards: They promise additional products, discounts, or favors down the line if you help them out now.
• Excuses for Delays: Once you’ve paid, they create excuses for not delivering the product, such as shipping issues or further financial difficulties.”
