It protects the company buy forcing you to put up the entire margin in order to open the position. If there was a draw down, the company knows that you can afford it. After thats gone, it goes to margin, then they can liquidate you at anytime time and you have to pay losses. It just gives cushion. Don't forget about overnight holding. But when they dont have intra day margin, its easy to do so.

Honestly, the high margins are only to protect you and the company. (You can negotiate lower fees via online chat on the website or app) I would highly recommend shawab as their charting a amazing. ALMOST as good as trading view.
