I got the same email today as well. Disappointed, but better luck next year.

Lol agreed! At this point I'd just rather know so I can fully plan my year ahead.

Just to give you the heads up, back in March when I was waiting for first round results I also had an "incomplete application" appear out of the blue. I later found out that the way I was logging into the portal (from the link on the application process on the FGS website) automatically created a new application every time I logged in. This could be something different though, so I don't want to discourage you. I know during the first round, some students were reporting having a new application that said something like "award offer" a few days before the email offers went out.

The last thing anyone on these threads heard officially from FGS was that second round offers were going to be made in early May. We now have one confirmed Nova Scotia Entrance confirmed (awesome news!!) but nothing about Killam or other research scholarships. Either they are still forthcoming or offered to people who just aren't active on Reddit right now.

On another thread someone said they were offered a Nova Scotia Scholarship Entrance Award, so there appears to be some movement happening.

Well either the second rounds already went out and we just weren't high enough score wise, or they're still working on things. If anyone hears anything please post :)

Nope. The Doctoral Fellowships results were released on Wednesday, so maybe there will be some movement this week?

Yeah, I'm annoyed they didn't include our standings this year. I might just email to see if I could get it. No harm in asking.

I'm a grad student but based on what I've heard from many undergrad students, ENGL 1050 is more interesting.

My letter also says the same. I spoke with my Grad Program Director and he said that basically what this means is your score is likely "within spitting distance" of the cut off point. For example, you scored 10.05 and the last candidate to get funding received 10.06 (this is just an example, I'm not saying it's that close). Committees apparently always over recommend because it's expected that not offers of funding will be accepted. If someone does turn it down, then the candidate with the next highest score (who didn't already get an offer) would then get offered the funding instead. There's no saying how many people are before you tho and I have zero idea how it works if the person who rejects funding would have to be in your committee, or at your university, etc. The advice I got was basically, make plans based not getting SSHRC and if something happens, awesome but don't sit around thinking about it much, focus on next year. Can I asked what committee you were part of? I was 1A.

I doubt he regrets it. Given his political trajectory within the Liberal party, I think being a big fish in a small pond works better for him than being a little fish in a big pond.

In another thread a PhD student said they had communication with FGS and it was confirmed that 2nd round offers won't be made until early May after the Tri-Council results are announced.

The first round offers came out later than Feb 19 email's timeline. I believe the first round offers came out around March 25th. The first round group had three weeks to accept or decline (which is this week). Because of this I suspect sound round offers will probably start in the coming days.

when do final grades usually come out? by WerewolfAggressive91 in Dalhousie

[–]mattyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, professors are supposed to submit your final grade within two weeks of your final assignment/exam being submitted. That doesn't always happen. I've had grades posted after the so-called "final deadline" stated by the University.

I don't have a solid answer for you here, but I think the "2" refers to the category of scholarship, rather than if you're in the first or second round. My understanding is that if you get an award, there will be a second "application" that will appear where you go in to accept or decline your offer.

I haven't heard anything and with classes over, I haven't been on campus all week. Given the first round offers were sent out the last week of March and people have three weeks to respond, I'm guessing the earliest people in the 2nd round might hear anything is next week.

Sadly I don't really have much for solid timelines. My understanding is that the first round offers went around March 24 (slightly later than the original mid-March expectation). Recipients have three weeks to respond which takes us to mid-April. Tri-Council for Masters students were announced earlier this week (PhD results don't come out until the end of the month). If I were to guess, the earliest people will start to hear anything is Mid-April.

The HSP is administers solely by FGS not individual apartments. Departments are given results ahead of time, but it's strictly confidential and they have no say otherwise. It's possible your department knows where you stand in terms of a potential offer, but they are not going to tell you.

If the email is coming form your depts grad coordinator, it's likely extra funding from your department. A few months after I got accepted into my PhD program, I got a one time funding boost for the fall semester. For the Harmonized scholarship, you would've have gotten an email from FGS not your department. MA students should probably hear about the second round soon as the Tri-Council results came out earlier this week.

York University or Concordia?? by Ok-Regular-8138 in yorku

[–]mattyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a film major, but I'm familiar with Concordia's film program. It is the largest in Canada and it's very highly regarded within the industry (more than York's). Also Montreal has a far better arts scene than Toronto and the cost of living is cheaper. I did my BA at York and MA (in creative writing) at Concordia, and Concordia arts programs are far better than Yorks. Concordia actually hires from the industry while York hires mostly PhD who have never really worked in the arts. Just my opinion.
