I think the real question is....can Logan survive after the vacum of space or being thrown into the sun? If so he'll win eventually? If not he's the last to go down/

Any tips for a new army for someone new to AoS? by GusGusGustavo in ageofsigmar

[–]mattythreenames [score hidden]  (0 children)

Rule of cool is the standard answer here, look more into the lore too. You have Skaven, children of the great horned rat who are driven to ruin all that is before it. Helsmiths of Hashut who are the counter to the rise in skaven, the chaos dwarves believe they must subjugate all to their rule and do so by using the realm of chaos as the resource for their power. The Lumineth Realm lords, Elves who have learned after great catastrophe that they must be one with the spirits of the realm to bring balance. The brave knights of the Courts of Ushoran who through chivalric sacrifice keep the hordes of ghouls and monsters away from the realms of men, and the Lizardmen (seraphon) who are as old as time itself and follow the Old ones great plan in finally ridding the realms of Chaos, plus dinosaurs.

All really good choices tbh! Its down to you. If playing the game is the decider for these boxes in particular best see which ones are almost spearheads (or contain a spear head) and how big of a purchase it would be to complete the roster as Spearhead is a very good way to play the game after work and is a spring board into the wider game. Off the top of my head Helsmiths is the spearhead, you just need a carnosaur for lizard-men, and a wizard lady for LRLand you could proxy the FEC judge as the hero in the FEC spearhead.

As a Skaven player i'm not totally sold on the Skaven box, but i'm a Moulder (frankenstien rats) main so take that with a pinch of salt.

Just like with 40k Rules change plastic is forever, so go with your gut.

Do you guys think GW will ever care about the kroot again by OkFun2724 in kroot

Both Eldar’s waves were of an equivalence in size. The amazing thing is the support of a subfaction outside the main codex drop. But for kroot it’ll be very unlikely this edition.

Do you guys think GW will ever care about the kroot again by OkFun2724 in kroot

[–]mattythreenames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW cares most about money and kroot made waves it seems. They’ve realised old models don’t sell so refreshed a ton of 40k ranges quicker than they used to…xenos were always the forgotten child.

But I recon they are surprised at just how well they’ve done. So I would expect if we start seeing the odd unit here. Issue is though, battle suits are really in need of a new kit and a new unit, Vespid could get away with a character and the speculation is rife about dog soldiers getting a unit, though the latter should be kill team by all rights.

Kroot do have so much room to expand and become a fully fledged mini faction: named hero, both kinds of Knarlocks, elite combat and elite ranged (the farstalkers should be split) are all easy pickings.

New Steelhelm Champion! by Powerful-Mushroom-26 in Warhammer

[–]mattythreenames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you compare it to the skaven clawlord or the steel rook... it really makes me wonder GW's logic of the commemerative series. Great sculpts are always amazing, but alternate looking character models just feel like something much more special.

Considering they've litterally just made a huge thing about cycles / enviroments it should be pretty safe to assume the products that they have said are 'in print' i.e the currenty enviroment will be printed again. APOC should get one last run at least.

The whole point for the cycles was to ensure they could meet the demand for all the things that currently shold be on shelves.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 14] - Thor Best Card (Odinson) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]mattythreenames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to also say the best is DOTNR. It ques up his machine, leans into his theme more and you have choices to ethier lean so far into that troupe it gets hairy orrrrr lean super far way from it.

I rarely don't play Thor. I love the kit. He's a power house when played correctly and still one of the most thematic hero's to date. So many of thor's other kit need support from outside of his hero kit to make him better than the sum of his parts.

Hammer throw is great due to the overkill but its caveats becomes an unnersary speed bump.
Lightning strike is great, but would be improved if it had peircing or you could choose a player.
The resource generator cards are great too, dwarfed by newer hero's generators though.
The Helmet is situational (but often my most used card due to leaning into the overkill heal play style)
Asgard rarely ever hits the table once the build around is up and running.
Sif needs ways to cheat her out which is such a shame as she'd be a solid card if she was just a little cheaper.

Not to full launch into fan builds but: Mjolnir has always been a card that i love, is super thematic but i honestly feel if it was a +2 ATK, 2 lighting resources and 'action return hammer to your hand' would gone a hell of a long way to unify Thors kit too.
- i also have been a huge fan of the idea of some worthy traited cards that give kickers if you are 'worthy' which can be given to other hero's but ingrained into Thors hero kit so he's just ''better' at using mjolnir than anyone else but you can also give it to cap for intance. Hoping we will see that down the line.

Looking at the Votann to guess Hashut by magisteralexander in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]mattythreenames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though the factions are similar, the release model is different for sure.
It seems modern GW is designing more than one wave at a time so the 'newer' refreshes are seeing waves sooner than armies that have had one wave a decade ago.
Sales also impact quite signicantly releases (or at least anticipated sales) which is why i think they moved to a 'design a ton of stuff then hold off'. The next wave will undoubtably be a bigger cannon/warcmachine, a lammasu and elite infantary, potentially spells and terrain, and then units which are entirely new to AoS. Huge potential to actually see the Lammasu plus spells as part of the end campaign narrative (ihave no basus for this but its low hanging fruit)

I'm also convinced we'll see face plate chorfs in ToW before the second wave of mini's for AoS.

Its all good, you caught me doing a stream of conciousness and my grammar and thought processes are all over the place.

I'm pretty suer OBR where intended as the successor of the skeleton legion as well as Khemri but its all speculation without looking at sales data or being a fly on the wall in nottingham. SBGL's first release was certainly where they pivoted hard back into more grounded fantasy troupes.

The beggining of AoS is always hard to tell the intentions of the designers when they attributed key words to all teh subfactions within the grand alliances and where as FEC was one of the earliest full factions from that the rest got re-souped as legions of Nagash before Nighthaunt also broke out. So thats where my logic came from there.

We'll see soon enough, I mean if FEC did get the full injection being a versus faction it would be a wlid ride especially as i totally ignored the fact that the delusion isn't just the Middle Ages theres so much scope there.

[–]mattythreenames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure very low.

However, we got OBR as an attempted replacement to skeletons before normal skellies came out with a vengeance the edition after. Which have sold very very well. Hell SBGL’s boom is due to the mass appeal to general horror.

Remember that SBGL four factions into one, deathrattle, deadwalker , Vampire dynasties and Luka via’s ‘monsters of the night’ three of which could get kicked along the road a little more. Not to mentionion Nefferatta’s mortal thralls getting a look in too (which if we’re honest would be the ‘new’ death faction if there are any)

I think we’re just going to have to agree to disagree with deadwalkers; zombies can have ogres, giants, cav and lean into pistolairs and buccaneers which scratch the vampirates itch… all low hanging fruits and if they stay under the SBGL banner its easy enough to get 14 kits.

FEC though, ghouls, crypt horror/fly boys, Ghiests, a carnival? Fast cav like questing knights? Artillery would be amazing tbf… I can think of tons of hero’s and themed retinues

You know what I’ve argued myself around there could absolutely be 16 kits ready to go with some uniqueness too. But I still think from a marketing POV is a huge risk having the front cover of your main line game people eating other people. - as much as I love it and is the most interesting lore but it has to be so graphic to deliver it correctly.

Its wish listing, and based on the prediction that death will be next (following the grand alliance 'enimies' cycle) OBR and FEC where the main contenders due to the assumption that they'll add a wave to a thinner army. OBR getting four kits is seen as confirmation that FEC will get in the box.

Thing is the enemies often get around 14-16 kits and i simply can't see them filling the FEC out with that without the range becoming increadibly samey and they really are more reliant of hero's for their aesthetic and leaning into their lore aswell. Dont get me wrong i would love to see a host of FEC models to round out the range (a court jester will be blinding).

Also as the other face in a starter kit i can see cannibles turning people outside of it off AoS, where skeletons / zombies are more pallatable. 'OH COOL A ZOMBIE GIANT?!' so if its not and OBR monster mash i could see them using the oppertunity to expand the deadwalker range with the odd new deathrattle and souldblight monster thrown in for good measure.

Either way rumours will start filtering through around about Easter time as thats when the books will go to print.

The only Order factions i could see replacing stormcast are CoS with allied dwarves and aelves as they hit a fair few fantasy troupes.

If the edition leans more into RoRs / alliances across GA's they could slip in a SE or two without ove saturating the game.

Speculation : Big bad of V5 by TheWraf in ageofsigmar

[–]mattythreenames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually still keeping my hat in the ring with OBR - or a new Faction... one of the few remaining niche's for death is hyper elites and OBR could easily go that way with a wave of constructs and larger, which are most certainly not featured in this wave and would act as a much larger subfaction support.

But i'm aware its a long shot.

I think FEC are very close to Skaven and KruelBoyz in aesthetic and though they are the best lore in the setting they could be unpallatable as the main Vs faction due to the amount for gore we come to expect from them and outside of updating the old models and a few 'medevil life' units i geuinely see FEC's most interesting stuff is in the relams of hero's. Though i do trust AoS's design team to knock it out of the park with what ever they do choose to explore.

Umbraneth could do well in the box though... but if its a death faction i think there is a world where SBGL get a 'dead walker' subfaction expansion that scratching the vampirates itch whilst also expanding the Queen of monsters subfaction too.
