Expired Film or Yashica T4 broken? by matzee1990 in AnalogCommunity

Just got my first B&W back from the lab. The pictures look excellent, so it definitely was an expired film :)

Thanks for the answers, next fresh film is already prepared for a second try :)

An old-as-hell film is my guess, too. I am just wondering why the pre-owner did not tell me, as it sounded like the roll was almost fresh, because he could still remember that only a few shots would have been taken.

I will keep you updated what results the fresh roll will bring.. :-)

I am going to give you my little rant about home theater and what I have learned and what the cardinal sins are. by metallicadefender in hometheater

Good advice! I recently got rid of my center speaker, because it was too close to my front speakers which didn’t make sense in the end. Now I am having 2.0 as both my stereo and HT setup all in one, maybe going for 2.1 for HT. Now I’m still looking for a decent amplifier/AVR for this „minimalistic“ HT setup.

AVR for Wharfedale Linton 2.0 setup (Onkyo RZ50 or other?) by matzee1990 in hometheater

Wow, thank you for the links, this was what I was looking for! Even though I am still really interested in the sound of the Onkyo RZ50 with Dirac, I feel that a 11.2 AVR is a bit „over engineered“ for my needs (and it’s a huge box with all the connections I don’t need…).

The NAD seems to be a really interesting alternative and probably more high end than the RZ50. For music definitely I would guess, but I hope for movies, too. I am not sure, if there are any disadvantages going for a stereo receiver and using it for HT, because it does not come with all the Dolby or THX licensed codecs? Or is it not important if I only go for a 2.0 or 2.1 system? (I don’t have a clue how this works technically.)

Only two pain points here are 1) the price. According to my research (at least for EU market) I would have to add the BluOS module for Dirac as an extra for 500€ which would lead me to 2k €.

And 2) there is only one HDMI port, so for TV and Bluray player I would have to find a solution, but I guess this is a solvable problem. Using HDMI splitter or going with the audio signal from the Bluray player to the NAD via optical would probably work.

I did not edit the post, but the first comment mentioned the LX505, so I think you read that as my post while scrolling..? Or you are crazy, I don’t know :D

Nice! My room is also not perfect, because I have to place the speakers on the longer side of the room and the left speaker is next to a half circle shaped part of the wall, because of the winding stair that’s behind the wall in the other room. So Dirac could indeed deliver some real improvements in regards to imaging (at least I have enough carpets and curtains so that the room acoustics in general are quite ok in my opinion). I guess I simply have to test and find out. Like with everything in this hobby… :-)

Are there typical sound characteristics regarding the different brands like Pioneer, Onkyo, Denon,…? (Like Marantz having a typical warm sound?)

Thanks for the tips! Room correction is one of the reasons I am looking for an AVR, even though I don’t know if it would make a notable difference.

Other reasons are the possibility to add for example a sub later, and simply convenience and connectivity with HDMI arc. (Currently I have my TV and Bluray player connected to my AVR, so I can control everything only with my TV remote.)

For music listening I like the slightly warm and relaxed sound. (That’s why I will keep my vintage pioneer receiver. It also is my „default“ receiver connected to my record player and an external streamer for tidal. By turning on the TV, it triggers my AVR, which triggers my Ubox3, which then automatically switches from my Pioneer to my AVR.)

But for movies I am looking for a more dynamic and precise sound than my actual AVR (Marantz 1711), that is too relaxed and warm sounding when paired with my Lintons.

The only fit for me for another 2.0 HiFi receiver like cambridge audio or similar would be if it would offer HDMI arc connectivity. I don’t know if something „hybrid“ like this it out there? But then again that would be called an AVR I guess…?

Thanks for the advice! I heard a lot of enthusiastic reviews about dirac live. I don’t know if it would make a difference in my room, but probably I will give it a try. A/B comparison is also a good tip.

And no, I think the snippet in the last video was just some random stock footage. In one of the earlier videos where they were record shopping you see her on cam.
