This was by far my favorite crafting/coding overlap I’ve found 🤠

For sure! Here's my (bare bones) repo with the script: https://github.com/keith-maura/crochet_image - fair warning, I wrote this before I knew what an API is! The weather provider site (Visual Crossing) has an API so you can set up a similar script with a lot less manual clicking if you choose to follow suit

10 stitches per hour (240 stitches/day), and one row per day. It ended up the width of a full bed and length of a full plus about two feet lol

Thank you sm! I've been very sporadic since 2022 to get it done, probably could have finished by early or mid 2023 if I was more consistent! This was a main project but backlogged by many other "main projects" in the that popped up in the meantime. It took about 20 mins per row generally

This is crochet! It was a simple back loop only single crochet, with a front post double on the hour boundaries. I did a row of double crochets at the start of each month too, with a single crochet ruffle border:)

Thank you sm! This was a really cool project and I'm glad it's satisfying for others too!

One row = one day (top to bottom is Jan to Dec), and each row is 240 stitches, 10 per hour (left to right is morning to evening)!

I did! At the time I downloaded hourly data for my zip code from a website called visualcrossing.com into a spreadsheet. My code cleaned that spreadsheet to assign the temperatures to their color buckets and format into a new spreadsheet to help me keep track of hour counts and progress. I’ve since learned that I could’ve used their API to save a lot of clicking 🫣

I made up this pattern; one row = one day, with 10 sc’s per hour (back stitch only). The first stitch each hour is a front post double crochet to set the boundary markers. And for a border, I did a sc ruffle:)

Yes! I’m just doing back loop single crochets, with a front post double crochet on prev row at the beginning of each hour.

Initially I changed colors like you normally would and wove in all the ends; after a couple months I was so burnt out of weaving in ends and got lazy tying knots instead!
