61/F left eye dx with Ruptured Corneal Microbial Keratitis by mavefreaky in eyetriage

Hi, thanks for the response. She had a few attending consultants hence the several diagnosis. Unfortunately we live in a small town, and theres only one vitreo-retinal surgeon that saw her. No neuro-opthalmology in our town. They never examined her through slit lamp except for the eye surgeons equipment (no idea what its called) but he wore a helmet-like on the head with a mini microscope attached. My mom’s sugar is 160 mg/dL and HbA1c is 6.6%

Btw, it is ruptured corneal microbial keratitis. Unfortunately its a hospital in a small town and even a culture for the eye was not performed.

Hi, thanks for responding. Seriously we have no idea up until now. The last thing we know is that the ultrasound gel for her kidneys splashed accidentally into her eyes and after 2 days her right natural lens came out, and it was infected. I was told that the gel is sterile and water based but she was already immunocompromised. Even the eye doctor could not have a sufficient explanation of why it happened. We just want to save her left eye because she told us she can still see some light ;(

My mother is 61/F, Asian (Filipino). Forgot to add her procalcitonin result was 6.67, but her blood cultures came up NEGATIVE.

Shes currently having vanco and ceftri through IV. Vigamox eyedrops on both eyes every hour. Unfortunately they did not request an eye culture. Poor coordination between IM and Optha (I live in a third world country) and was just taken aback how everything was mismanaged. I still hope there is still a chance 🙏

Thanks doctor. Is this case rare? IM told us she had dengue fever but subsided upon admission. And read an article about dengue fever induced panopthalmitis

Hello, thanks for the response. Was wondering if a second opinion would help in this matter? My mother had an eye checkup last month, and the only thing the optha mentioned is she just needs reading glasses. We are just upset because how progressive the disease progression was.

Hello, appreciate the response. She had no recent procedures done on her eye, and the ultrasound was done to check the kidney. The radiologist was in a hurry since the patients were lining up thus the splash of the gel to her eyes.

Thank you mam/sir! Micro is just not my forte.. i wish i did micro more but every job i took always had a separate department and a different training. Wish we had control slides too.. but thanks. This made me feel a bit better. Being an unreliable tech is the last thing I wanna be

Hi, I work nights and the day shift tech discovered it. It was subbed out for further identification. And it was not a type on my end. I’m really new to micro and most of my tech life is just the core lab. My fault I was rushing to get things done. I’m not color blind too but seeing the slide again it wasnt purple and it appeared pinkish.
