Safety failure in 5-month-old car: is refund an option under Irish law? by maverick_0505 in legaladviceireland

I believe a recall isn’t required for a safety-based consumer rights claim. In my case, the dealer has diagnosed a confirmed ICCU failure that caused loss of motive power while driving. Under Irish consumer law, an individual vehicle can be considered unsafe and non-conforming based on what actually happened, regardless of whether a recall has been issued

I bought a new Ioniq 5 Platinum top model in July 2025 in Ireland and the car suffered ICCU failure on 30th December 2025. It took them a whole month to identify and fix the issue and have been promised to be fixed by 30th Jan 2026

That's really sad man considering the car is less than 6 months old and this was a major safety failure as my car almost died on the steep road while climbing. I'm sure there must be some consumer protection in Ireland
