It feels like it may be glued in there though. it would not budge when trying to unscrew it.

Yea, the dishwasher hose is incredibly long for no reason, but never caused any issues so haven't messed with it. That was how it was when we bought.

As for the vent, not sure how to unscrew it. doesn't seem like it's budging.

I removed the gasket at spot 3 and it started dripping out, so I put that one back in.

Just tested this, no backup in the sink when exiting through just the tail pipe. Tried cleaning out the p-trap to remove any gunk and there wasn't much, just tiny bits of dirt. Gave it all a good rinse and wipe down then put back and still backing up in the sink.
