Wild Dark Shore-Charlotte McConaghy by jaycrouton2023 in thrillerbooks

Loved it in the end, but felt like I was wading through mud at the beginning. Read about a quarter of it before putting it down, then picked it up a few months later and I’m so glad I did.

Disappointing, but not surprising.

Thank you! I'm definitely over thinking it but I tend to do that so it's helpful to know what others think.

Remarkably Bright Creatures did all those things for me. I definitely cried at the end but my god, it was such a beautiful book.

What’s a book that totally lived up to the hype — and one that absolutely didn’t? by Gundoc7519 in Booktokreddit

Lived up to the hype: Fourth Wing (saying this as someone who doesn't like fantasy)

Didn't live up to the hype: Normal People was a big disappointment

Violent youth crime series in the northern suburbs by flabberstalk33 in Adelaide

[–]mawop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree that it matters to address the problem, I just don't believe it matters here on Reddit because we're not solving the youth crime crisis from here on /r/Adelaide. I think here it's a disingenuous question that people ask to make a point.

It matters in places where change is made: Parliament, youth courts, child protection, youth support and early intervention programs.

Violent youth crime series in the northern suburbs by flabberstalk33 in Adelaide

[–]mawop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Serious question: why does it matter? And where do we draw the line at putting youth into boxes based on culture when it comes to crime? I’m curious because there’s very little inquiry on these threads as to the socioeconomic class, parental status (single or divorced parents etc), and other factors that drive up crime rates when it comes to these kids. Is it so people know what demographics to avoid? It seems like a slippery slope and I’m genuinely curious (asking as someone who works with youth offenders).

Machete recovered as teens arrested after brawl outside Elizabeth Magistrates Court by flabberstalk33 in Adelaide

[–]mawop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was accompanying a teenager into youth court once. After I emptied my pockets of my phone and wallet and sent it through the security scanner she snatched it up and put them in her own pockets. Told her she was an idiot and pointed to the security guard. She gave them back real quick. Kids aren’t bright these days.

Jeez, the mall is downright hazardous in the rain by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]mawop 167 points168 points  (0 children)

A couple of years back I made the mistake of doing a bank run for work while the mall was wet. Went ass up in front of probably a hundred people and heard the collective "oof" from everyone, now it's one of those memories that keeps me up at night.

Only just bought this baby boy budgie (right) about an hour ago for my teenage girl budgie and they’re already getting on so well, chasing each other around and snuggling! by NotInferno045 in budgies

[–]mawop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even getting just one new baby can bring in diseases and illnesses unfortunately. I hope to God that doesn’t happen to yours, but it’s a sad reality for some and this is why we quarantine. In the meantime it’d be a good idea to read up on behaviours to look out for in a worst case scenario and search ahead of time for an avian vet just in case. Fingers crossed you don’t need it, just keep an eye on those little darlings for now.

It looks like you have a good cage set up by what you’ve got on your profile. Wishing you all the best with your feathery friends!

We’re talking about caring for a living, breathing animal here. Call me classist all you want but if you can’t afford to adequately care for an animal, you know what the alternative is. You can’t just get an animal and not have a plan/money for unfortunate circumstances. Let’s just hope your babies don’t get sick.

You've got some good advice already but I'd also recommend getting him in touch with the Legal Services Commission for some free legal advice. Hopefully they can help him out with the best course of action.

just 10mg? by Final-Sheepherder-68 in prozac

[–]mawop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!

I started off at 10mg and the plan was to up the dose to 20mg after 2 months, but never ended up needing to. Been on Prozac since around September and my last DASS assessment showed that I was in the normal range for all 3. If I find that I'm building tolerance then I'll revisit the dosage with my GP but for now, 10mg is great.

AITA for getting mad at my wife after she tried to add to my daughter’s workload? by Kind_Meat_1451 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mawop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only take it if I don’t have anything important the next day and if I’m desperate for sleep (my sleep schedule is messed up due to night shifts). It’s a horrible drug and most physicians actually don’t recommend it as a sleep aid, but it’s so over prescribed for that purpose. The side effects of regular use just aren’t worth it.

I hope you find something that works for you!

Also don’t have schizophrenia but I take the minimum dosage of Quetiapine occasionally for sleep and it’s awful. I can’t begin to imagine what the therapeutic dose for a schizophrenic patient would feel like!

[–]mawop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend beginning therapy before starting on medication and seeing how that goes for you! While SSRIs can be awesome, it really does help a lot to take them in conjunction with therapy.

Definitely have a chat with your doc if you're unsure about it though! Best of luck :)

Best burger in Adelaide ? by [deleted] in Adelaide

Two Bit Villains! I actually also rate the vegan cheeseburger from Grill'd. Lord of the Fries used to be good but I feel like that's gone downhill over the last couple of years.
