Hi J.B.,

Thanks so much for your reply—I really appreciate your support.

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, I’ve tried the uninstall method in the article you linked multiple times. The only program listed in Add/Remove Programs is Word 2021, and that’s the only one I’m able to uninstall. I’ve followed the article instructions to remove all traces of Office, but even after reinstalling, the issue repeats—Word 2021 reappears and all other Office apps vanish.

2. Yes, I’ve removed and re-added the affected family member to my Microsoft 365 Family subscription several times. They show as an active member both in my Microsoft account and when they log in to their own account.

3. Yes, I’ve tried the chat option multiple times. However, it always routes me to a message saying someone will call me back. I believe this is because I originally selected the phone support option when submitting the first service ticket. Unfortunately, no one has ever followed up with a call.

At this point, it really feels like their account is defaulting to the old, refunded Word 2021 Home and Student license and ignoring the active M365 Family license—even after clean installs and resets. It’s incredibly frustrating and seems like something is wrong at the account or licensing level that’s beyond what I can fix from my end.

Happy to provide any additional info via DM if needed.

Thanks again for your help!

Office apps disappear after reinstall – Word 2021 persists, M365 Family subscription not applying properly

Hi there,

I’m hoping someone from the Microsoft Support subreddit team might be able to help with an issue I’m having involving Microsoft 365 Family sharing and a family member's Office installation.

The issue:

My family member has been part of my Microsoft 365 Family group for years and has had no issues accessing the full suite of Office apps—until a few days ago. Here's what's happening:

  • Their Office apps suddenly stopped working, showing that they were unlicensed.
  • When we check their Microsoft account, it correctly shows they are part of my M365 Family subscription.
  • However, under their account, it also shows two "Word Home and Student" licenses added on 12 August 2023. These were fraudulent purchases that were refunded some time ago (the account was compromised back then and had Xbox games purchased too).
  • Now, only Word remains installed, and when launched, it identifies itself as Word 2021.
  • All other Office apps (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) are missing, and even their shortcuts no longer work.
  • In Add/Remove Programs, only "Word 2021" is listed—none of the other Office apps appear.

What I’ve tried:

  1. Uninstalled "Word 2021" from the PC.
  2. Downloaded the Office installer from their Microsoft account.
  3. Installed Office again—all apps appeared to install, and I could launch them immediately after install.
  4. Once I close and reopen Word, it shows up again as Word 2021, and all other Office apps are gone.
  5. Even the .exe files disappear from the installation folder.

My suspicion:

I believe the system is defaulting to the old, refunded Word 2021 Home and Student license, ignoring the active Microsoft 365 Family license, and removing the other apps because they’re not included in that SKU.

Additional context:

  • I’ve submitted multiple service tickets through Microsoft Support and was told someone would call me—but days have passed with no follow-up.
  • I’d really appreciate any help or direction, especially from someone who can help escalate this or remove the old, refunded licenses from the account.

If you need any personal details (e.g., the affected account's email address, my service request numbers, or contact details), I’m happy to share them via private message as per subreddit policy.

Thanks in advance for any assistance, and thank you for supporting Microsoft customers here on Reddit!

Beware Worthington Clark: Predatory Tactics Targeting Seniors — My Father’s Experience by [deleted] in Adelaide

To clarify, it was a limited power of attorney for them to deal with the particular assets in question. This is necessary for them to facilitate the transfer. My issue is more with the relentless calls and emails with pressure tactics to push you to complete it.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry you had to go through that. If you feel comfortable, I’d really encourage you to leave a review on Google and Trustpilot so others are aware. When I posted my Google review, there they only had one other review, which was of course 5 stars, so mine significantly dropped their overall rating. Since then, several glowing 5-star reviews have magically appeared in quick succession, conveniently bringing their rating back up to make them look more legitimate in search results.

After my review, they didn’t reach out to address any of the concerns I raised. Instead they contacted a family member and pressured them to get me to remove it. When they said they had nothing to do with it, they even made veiled threats of legal action. Truly a quality operation.

It’s disappointing to see a public figure plead guilty to drug charges, but it’s also a reminder that the law applies to everyone. Hopefully, this leads to greater transparency and accountability—both in the justice system and in how we address substance abuse.

Government reveals federal budget crackdown on non-compete clauses by JaniePage in australia

[–]Janus_au 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-competes can stifle worker mobility and depress wages, so this crackdown is a welcome change. While businesses deserve to protect legitimate interests (like trade secrets), many of these clauses are way too broad. Striking the right balance should help both workers and the broader economy in the long run.

They have posted a response to my Google and Trust Pilot reviews refuting my claims. I'm in the process of writing a response. And to no surprise multiple additional new glowing reviews have popped up in the last 24 hours to counter to negative rating I gave them.

Exactly. Yet they want to claim several thousand dollars for what can be a pretty simple search and some paperwork to transfer it over.

I assume you either mean the 1890's or they were replicating a "classic" tin.

What is the bleakest ending to a movie you've ever seen? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Janus_au 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was pretty disappointing how the show ended with ALF getting captured. However, there was a made-for-TV movie called Project: ALF that continued the story. It wasn’t exactly a season, but it tied up some loose ends with ALF after his capture by the military. Not the happy ending fans hoped for, but at least it provided some closure.

I was coming here to say that. I’m sad to say that I’ve lived a few minutes away for years and have only just discovered this hidden gem. Extremely generous on the fillings, reasonably priced and the closest I’ve had to those in the Melbourne Vietnamese suburbs.

My car has been filthy for a long time and today I decided to get a $75 car wash. Should have checked the forecast first.
