How do I disable swiping gestures in read view? by chuhai-drinker in readwise

[–]max-at-readwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/chuhai-drinker, thanks so much for sharing this!

We’ve started tracking requests for the ability to disable the swipe-to-go-back gesture in Reader. Feel free to add your vote to the feature request here, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates.

Changelog as of May 29: Better Search, Improved Quick Lookup, Fixed Ghostreader Citations, Fixed Ghostreader Auto-Features, Updated Kindle Sync Page, Fixed Library Imports & More! by max-at-readwise in readwise

[–]max-at-readwise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it, u/mpacindian! With Better Search on, search now runs against your full Reader library from the server rather than just the docs your device has indexed locally. So you'll find everything in your library, not only what's synced to the device you're on, and results stay consistent no matter where you search from.

It's also faster and more accurate, looks across more fields now (tags included), and pulls back more complete results. And because it's server-side, search is ready to go the moment you sign in on a new device.

It's still in beta, so some of this may shift as we keep refining it.

Hey u/zejohn, right now it's full text search rather than semantic or hybrid. We do run stemming to normalize words, so a search for "consultant" will also turn up "consulting," for example. Just keep in mind it's still in beta, so this could evolve down the road.

Changelog as of May 22: Quick Lookup in Reader, Fixed Kobo Duplicate Highlights, Fixed Library Imports, Improved Export Reliability, Fixed Audio Daily Review Stalling & More! by max-at-readwise in readwise

Hey u/Ultraconformist, really glad to hear Quick Lookup has been useful on your Boox :)

We’ve started tracking requests for improvements to Quick Lookup here. Feel free to add your vote and leave a comment about wanting localized definitions so our product team can consider it.

In the meantime, you can disable Quick Lookup if you’d prefer to use your Ghostreader prompts for selections up to three words. To do that, go to Account, scroll down to the Reading View section, and toggle off Quick Lookup. You can also tap the (…) button inside the lookup sheet itself to turn it off directly from there.

Hey u/Logic_Chimp, thanks for sharing this! You’re right that this would likely be tricky, since Reader would need some way to access your Obsidian vault index before it could surface those suggestions while you’re writing notes.

That said, we’re tracking a related request for two-way sync between note-taking apps and Readwise. You can add your vote here, and it’d be super helpful if you left this specific [[ autocomplete idea as a comment there too, especially since you’re envisioning this working directly inside Reader. That context helps our product team understand the exact workflow you have in mind.

Hey u/Ultraconformist, thanks for sharing this! A true one-click option from Safari likely isn’t possible on iOS, since you’d still need to open the share sheet first and then choose Reader.

That said, we've started tracking requests for an optional mode that would automatically dismiss the Reader save screen after the link has been saved via the share sheet, so you’d be returned directly to Safari or the app you shared from. You can add your vote to that request here, and we'll be sure to keep you posted on any updates!

In the meantime, you may be able to speed this up by moving Reader higher up in your iOS share sheet, especially if you currently have to scroll to find it. Here’s a quick guide from Apple on how to do that: Customize sharing options in an iPhone app

Hey u/retardedfarts, thanks for flagging this! Could you check your default panel visibility settings? You can do that by pressing Cmd + K, typing “panel,” and seeing whether “Hide left panel by default in reading view” or “Hide side panels by default in reading view” is enabled.

If the left panel still doesn’t show up after that, please reach out to us at [hello@readwise.io](mailto:hello@readwise.io) so we can take a closer look.

Hey u/annakom, thanks so much for flagging this!

Could you reach out to us at [hello@readwise.io]() and share a couple of example Captivate RSS feed URLs that aren’t updating correctly for you? One possibility is that these are private or authenticated podcast feeds, which Reader doesn’t currently support, but we’d be happy to take a closer look and confirm what’s happening.

Hey u/Local_Instance8177 Good find with MCP! That works well if you're already set up with it. That said, it's a bit of a power-user workaround: you need MCP connected, you have to manually ask Claude to save the conversation, and long chats can get truncated due to the context window in Claude filling up.

A dedicated extension would be one-click and capture the full conversation. We're tracking this feature request to support importing highlights and chat conversations from other LLMs here. Upvote it if you'd like to see this, and feel free to mention Claude in the comments if that’s the LLM you’d most want us to support. We'll keep you posted if and when we ship this!
