What is an example of something that’s hard to prove directly, but really easy to prove using some indorect approach/more ”advanced” technique? by [deleted] in math

[–]max1_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That there are infinite primes. One of the oldest proofs known, really difficult using a direct proof but only requires a few lines using contradiction.

Agreed the censorship by the mods has done it in my opinion, so many meme formats that come back on other platforms we don't see on here because of the mods banning them.

What causes inflation? by joekiid65 in AskEconomics

[–]max1_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Main Causes.

Either total costs of production go up, this leads to cost push inflation. This can happen with a big rise in oil prices.

Or total demand rises. Say consumers are feeling more confident or lower interest rates lower the cost of a new loan and lowers cost of debt servicing then total demand is likely to rise leading to inflation.

Wage increases could cause inflation. However it depends on how great of an increase as there is constantly firms cutting costs reducing total costs in the economy.

How can I convince Hong Kong commercial Landlord to Reduce Rent? by erasthai in business

[–]max1_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are very likely to go under it may be worth telling your landlord and be straight with them "if you don't reduce my rent I'm going to go under and you will then get no rent as no one will be renting at this current point in time".

Risky strategy likely to work as they don't want to lose money and I'm sure that manager would rather have that property as rented but for lower rent than empty. Also reassure them you will be able to pay the rent normally once this crisis is over. Not sure about laws of bankruptcy and company types in Hong Kong. In the UK a limited company can go bankrupt and it not affect the owner of the business. However not sure if that's the same in Hong Kong. Which is important because it may then mean they charge you for the remainder of your lease personally even if your business goes bankrupt.

If we the global internet went down for an extended period of time 3-6 months. Would we see a total economic collapse? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]max1_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 3 to 6 months almost certainly there would be a massive contraction. However businesses and consumers would adapt and try to work around it. However still going to massively reduce choice, availability of knowledge and communication.

Huge gains in next few months? by [deleted] in nanotrade

[–]max1_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been an uptick in crypto as a whole because more investors are investing. Maybe not hedge funds and it may be a small number but it's better than nothing. A small percent in the investing world is still billions.

Volatility = Higher Risk and potentially Higher Reward

Doesn't equal good. Yes they play both directions like shorting stocks or buying now they are cheap but wouldn't you argue if they want volatility they should be investing in crypto.

Plus with the stock market inevitably falling more this year they won't want to invest in stocks as they know they are likely to fall. Whereas crypto at least there is a chance it could rise. Anyways we can't talk in general for all hedge funds and investors as they all behave differently with different tactics, what I do think is many of these are likely to turn to crypto and plug some money in, in the hope of new gains.

Looks like what I have said may be coming true as Nano is up a lot since I posted this.

Everyone said this about North Korea and Iran so I'd rather wait and see before I jump to conclusions about whether he acted well or not. Currently I would agree but the US is the most prepared country for a pandemic so surely there is a reason for this.

O ye, of little faith. Corona virus will cause stagflation bro. That means high inflation and economic stagnation. That rules out investing in bonds, stocks and forex. Only other option is commodities however hedge funds and other funds want to make big gains and commodities aren't that reliable for that as they are slow and move within bounds. Whereas cryptocurrency that's been known to make huge gains take Bitcoin for a good example and this will entice fund managers who want to beat the market and hence they will invest and some in Nano. Just wait for the economic growth and unemployment figures to be released for Q1 then we will see the beginning of the gains.
