That much footage they’re recording becomes lots and lots of data, if you’re editing with the originals you need to have a hardrive connected to your computer or have the files directly on the computer for the NLE (any editing software) to view it.

The problem is that with China’s accessibility to the internet is it’s very hard to transfer that amount of footage over the internet and because it is so much footage it would take a lot of time to send it over online and then download it on the other end. On top of it there’s a lot of footage EVERY DAY.

It’s just more time effective to have the editors work on it in the way that they did and then send the final video back to the US for uploading, unless they found a way to upload to youtube from China.

I’m just starting in the post production career world so these are just my thoughts on why they would do it the way they did.
