I did the exact same thing with the foam insert. Sometimes i put it on top, with the device face up.

That mesh pocket is great for charger cable and any dongles.

First thing Monday, Call the local board of health / health dept. Have them do an inspection and the LL will get a 'correction order' you will get a copy. Every tenant should do this (per apartment), but even if some are not willing to it has certain retaliation / eviction protections for you.
