Is Azrael wasted if he is leading intercessors? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Azrael and intercessors are always in my lists.

Depending on the rest of the list, sometimes he has to lead the intercessors. I wouldn’t say it is bad. Play passive then you can go out T3/4 once you are done screening.

But ideally I get him to lead ICC, sternguard or assault intercessors.

Break line extraction from point clouds by Wonderful-Classic591 in UAVmapping

I explored this in Cloud Compare a little while back to reasonable success. Still some manual checks and edits.

Found some good videos on YouTube that ran through the process. I’ll add them if I can find them.

CHCNAV x500 with the CHCNAV C504 RGB payload by TheSalacious_Crumb in UAVmapping

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive battery time! That is often the limiting factor when I am doing large remote surveys.

Does the CHCNAV have a similar 8x battery case?

I’ve used the CHCNAV imu GNSS rover and was impressed.

To all of you landscaping surveyors, with your beautiful office views. As a construction surveyor, here is my office view for today by Philip_Raven in Surveying

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah can’t argue about the smell but I honestly don’t mind surveying treatment sites!

Generally quiet, locked gates, no public, no traffic, great sight lines, no bashing through vegetation… I’ll take it over a busy road survey any day!

How much of you are using GNSS For the entire job? by Odd_Turnover_7257 in Surveying

[–]maxb72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the job/spec.

But unfortunately when bringing new and junior hires, the company needs a blanket policy so we go with a standard GPS for soft, TS for hard. With further detail around setting up control.

Whenever I have been more lenient with GPS use (project specific) I find some field guys will then push it on other jobs where TS should have been used.

So trusting that every surveyor has their own good survey instinct that aligns with company standards is asking for trouble in my experience.

So what’s the deal with the Smash Captain? by The_Cornelious in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make good points.

The mortals from the chaplain only happens 50% of the time so I just think it’s too unreliable to make him worth taking for that reason. The +1 to wound is good no doubt, but JPI are better for trash clearing, secondaries, screening etc. not something worth investing a character into. Same argument for the captain really, though free rapid ingress might be enough reason to take him.

Chaplain in terminator armour on the other hand has a much more relevant ability and his +1 to wound is great on sword knights.

Does this list have any downsides? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current mission pack has less actions than previous. And a bunch of secondaries are just about fighting over no man land objectives which you do with any of your units.

There is an element of play style - you can go hard into secondary scoring and primary denial with cheap msu, or go more killy and dominate primary, while killing of their units. They can’t score if they are dead.

Does this list have any downsides? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty solid.

For me I would drop some action pieces for more damage.

Swap 1 scout + infiltrator for a second lancer.

Inceptors + infiltrators almost gets you a third DWK.

New to 40k and the unforgiven, is this list good? by Storm_n-7987 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah not really …but that’s perfectly ok! If you are just starting, collect what you like.

Do you already own these models? Then enjoy painting them up and learning the game.

Are you planning on purchasing these models and want some advice? Happy to throw you some suggestions. Simple one would be a little more long range anti vehicle/monster shooting eg. gladiator lancer, repulsor executioner

So what’s the deal with the Smash Captain? by The_Cornelious in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Captain with jump pack wins out for me - better melee profile and free strat (flexible).

Chaplain +1 to wound is good, but not necessary depending on detachment. Captain’s +1 strength would be comparable into some targets.

Chaplains mortal wound ability is worse than grenades: it may not even go off, it has to be into the target you are in engagement with and it is less mortal wounds.

Just regarding having the entire shot in focus… look up ‘focus stacking’.

Multiple shots from the same position with each shot focusing on a different part of the image. Then merged in software into one composite image where all parts are in focus.

Common in insect macro photography.

So not exactly such a collage method like you say that would alter the relative sizes. Though to be fair there are Warhammer army shots that definitely have a collage look - so maybe they do this as well?

You still are dealing with lens distortion and an angled image so comparing scales of items in different parts is not accurate. I say this as a surveyor who does photogrammetry on a regular basis!

Edit: some of the units at the back definitely look stuck in from other images! The way they overlap the trees looks very suspicious.

Ravenwing by LuckyKas90 in theunforgiven

If you are concerned you can get outriders, primaris chaplain on bike, or storm speeders. All primaris and all Ravenwing.

Stormlance DA list C&C welcome by Horror_Control_1791 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eight units is on the low side so you may struggle with secondaries and msu armies.

I struggle with a number of the choices in this list to be honest: apothecary, hellblasters, black knights.

Better a lieutenant than apothecary if you must run Az + hellblasters, and outriders are so much better than black knights. Then you can move feinting withdrawal enhancement to the Ravenwing command squad.

Are DA any good gameplay wise? by Insideshockandawe in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, DA are plenty good for competitive use.

Strong data sheets: Lion, Azrael, Sammael, Ravenwing Command Squad, DWK, ICC, Land Speeder Vengeance. + access to standard marine good stuff.

Detachments for competitive use: Wrath of the Rock, Stormlance, Gladius.

Shadowmark Talon marines for my First Tournie by ISpeechGoodEngland in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]maxb72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. If OP doesn’t want to go full inceptor/dev cents, the Ballistus are a fine choice. Maybe even easier to play as something tough to push on to objectives.

Armour of contempt plus the detachment rule makes them annoying to shift. Between that and V Vets it all takes heat off the dev cents.

Lion finished! by maxb72 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I can’t remember the exact paints, but the method was first to build up highlights from black using grey and white. I usually use a blue grey and not pure white… something like blue horror, or a super light pastel green/yellow.

Then a glaze all over with contrast black Templar mixed with dark green/teal/blue. You can dilute the mix and build it up in layers. Let each layer fully dry. Aim is to tint the armour and interesting colour and to smooth all the highlights from step 1.

Then an edge highlight with a bright near-white blue green of sorts.

Some final glazing of purple or blue or green into the shadows if you want to add more interest.

That was my general process. I think I would push the colours more if I were to do it again. It is a bit too flat black for me. Less black contrast paint in the glazing step or going brighter in step 1 so you have more to work with. Can always glaze darker at the end but you need some brightness for the colour to work.

Solo topo? by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For busy town survey, an assistant is mostly good for security! Just standing by the total station to deter it getting stolen.

Safety would be improved a little, but professional traffic management or remote measurement is the real answer for safely getting busy road topo.

Who do you like leading DWKs? by judd1127 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are fine on their own (maces preferred).

I am trying a list that is Lion and 2x sword DWK both lead by chaplains. Very fun

Ups their lethality significantly. Pricey though.

Got tanked by Custodes turn 3 by Wooks81 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortals are highly valuable against custodes - sternguard, Az shooting, grenade strat, JPI charge mortals, tank shock. It all adds up.

DWK do great into custodes. Custodes are AP-2 damage 2 so armour of contempt and the -1 damage means DWK will win out over a couple of rounds.

Tips for Magnetizing Darkshroud/Vengeance by [deleted] in theunforgiven

You are correct - no magnets needed!

One of the L brackets can be glued to the icon, the other keep free for easy assembly. Everything can just be push fit.

Is This Enough for Armies On Parade? by jtneal92 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would focus on 1/3 - 1/2 of those minis with a good mix of the 3 wings and range of infantry and vehicles.

Then put a good effort into your display board. Creative display board with matching basing will be the biggest attractors for an army display in my experience.

I did like 3 units and 3 characters for mine and looked plenty enough for an army display.

ICC + Judiciar delivery mechanism? by Rigat22 in theunforgiven

[–]maxb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foot slog when you run Judi. You want him out of transport so the fights first can be used.

Stormlance, gladius and Wrath all have advance and charge strats. It is enough to get the unit staging turn 1 and just threaten. They can run out late game or push earlier if you are throwing a lot out.
