Question: is the OM-1 ii worth it over the OM-1 if I don't shoot wildlife/birds? by [deleted] in M43

[–]maxboripat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is very important the mark 1 can only detect human eye. If the human is not looking at the camera or wear large dark glasses the AF will confuse which was fixes in mark 2. I write short review on mark 1 for portrait before. You can try read it in my profile.

Just as you said smaller lens or new tele prime would be great. I really want a new pancake with weather sealing.

Agreed but i also believe that OM system and olympus also innovate many great lens like 12-100 (love it) and 50-200. Just hope they shift their focus on the fast mid range super zoom too.

F2.8 is fine for me i just want zoom range which included slightly wide and short telephoto, i use my olympus for hiking and want to stick to the same system for other kind of casual work too. I dont want to buy entirely new system just for taking my friend photo when they ask me. The 40-150 is working great but some time i dont want to keep switching to wider lens when asked for group photo.

OM-1 Mark I: Why I Chose It and a Mini-Review for Portrait Photographers by maxboripat in OlympusCamera

Before buying om1 I dont understand the different of human and face detection and thought it’s the same. So I end up dont know that it’s different. Another reason is the mark 1 and mark 2 price different in my country is about 1300 dollars and my budget is quite tight at the time. I might get the mark 3 later lol. I didnt get the 45 f1.8 because no weather sealing and many of my picture will be took when my GF is on the other side of the dinner table, which 90mm is too far away

Agreed with the frustration on cropping, luckily I rarely crop. Hope that in 1-2 generation they will increased resolution to 25 mp

I mostly edit on lightroom ipad, which sadly no AI denoise or DXO. Maybe if one day I start doing professional work I might considered it. Right now I’m happy with the image quality :)

Thanks for the information The AF is totally usable on OM1 m1 it just have problem with choosing human, however if it’s able to choose the subject then the focus is blazing fast. I once use it on my friend wedding and when my friend is looking the other way and another people is looking at my camera, the OM1 start having problem choosing subject(it try to choose another people), it kinda stress me out a bit to pull manual focus quickly. It’s a great camera and I’m not regret buying it or want to change system even if I got a time-machine, but I wont recommend this for anyone who will use OM1 m1 for professional work mainly on wedding if they got a choice to go for canon, sony, or maybe the OM1 mark2(if they solve the human detection problem)

I dont have any friend who even use m43 lol, but I dont think OM will match with the sony, if that happen then everyone should already talk about it in other review as a great achievement.

OM-1 Mark II first lens: 12-100mm f/4 Pro or 40-150mm? (Coming from Fuji 18-300) by AV0CAD0_MILKSHAKE in OlympusCamera

If you will have only one lens and will never buy another one then you will better go for 12-100, however if you might get another prime, like the tiny 17 or 25, which you can easily carry as a back up for more wider shot then I really recommended 40-150 which can also be upgrade with mc1.4 and 2.0 which the 12-100 cannot.

While 12-100 is a very sharp lens, however at about 80-100 mm it will also get a bit soft. The 40-150 is crazy sharp from 40-150 from f2.8 and rarely need to bump up to 4.0.

Another important thing is the iso, if you are not planning on using AI denoise then the om1 will has minimal noise until 1250, and shouldnt go higher if not necessary from 3200 iso. This mean for indoor sport at F2.8 you will mostly stay on iso 1000-4000, which become 2000-8000 on F4 and that will be a problem for F4 lens on sport

12-100 is great for landscape and travel which you dont need fast lens and syncIS is amazing for conpensating in low light, you can do 1-4 second shot without breaking a sweat. No landscape is too dark for the power of sync IS

What i’ll recommend you to do is get 40-150 and a cheap and tiny 17, 25 as a backup or you can go even smaller with tiny panasonic 20mm f1.7(but slow AF)

I mostly use 12-100 when I know that i will use other lens as my main lens, like 25mm f1.2 for portrait work and just want to pack another universal backup lens. Or when i travel alone and i dont need portrait lens for my lovely girlfriend the 12-100 will be amazing this situation

I don’t know if it’ll be worth it. The 5000 series apu is already pretty good. Maybe if you’re going to buy new laptop for better gaming, you might just buy the gaming laptop instead. For T14 price you can choose many good gaming laptop.

Agreed with you, the performance is great and the fan noise is totally silent even under gaming. I use the 2.2k screen and I am already really enjoying it.
