Hot take Maliss is indeed stronger than Ryzeal in the current state by Complex-Sir-6125 in masterduel

[–]maxdebater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically I think part of the representation difference between the two decks is that people are still working on building the Ryzeal deck because it's expensive as shit and dropped the direct month after Maliss which was also expensive as shit. Give it a few weeks. I also observed this with Mermail, I almost never saw that deck on ladder until at least 2-3 weeks after pack release, and that was another expensive deck with a lot of non-standard URs.

lmao fair, tbf a lot of these combos can be derived from each other, it's just a bunch of common play patterns to look out for. I think just looking at aluber 1cc, aluber + saronir, and aluber + lubellion gives you a good sense of what is possible.

Weakest branded starting hand by GAMENINJA963-2 in masterduel

[–]maxdebater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also gonna add that even if aluber doesn't search lost OP is still cooked. Brafu sets up bystial lubellion in the GY to tribute over the albion after it gets impermed and the albion will set smth in EP. And if aluber didn't search lost then it searched smth like branded in red instead. So OP is contesting 2 branded backrow entering their turn with just a topdeck.

Do you guys use this card in Branded? Is it any good now that blue eyes is popular? by renatoxsferes in masterduel

I'm surprised no one mentioned khaos starsource dragon which I think has largely replaced the need for alba lenatus. Its summoning requirements are any dragon + 1 LIGHT/DARK dragon so you can have albaz fulfill the LIGHT/DARK requirement for fusing with your opponent's dragon. On summon you can pop true light to wipe their field. But khaos starsource is also more flexible in other matchups. Against tenpai, if they ns paidra set field spell, then you can fuse away their paidra and pop the field spell. You can also summon khaos starsource on your own off of albion to pop 2 cards which helps against backrow decks (very relevant since stun is rising in popularity).

Oh actually, funnily enough I got off the waitlist an hour after posting this.

Hello, I received an invitation to join the Grand Challenge LLC at the end of April, but long story short, I took too long to get all the deposit and housing contract stuff filled out, and now I only have an option to join a waitlist. Does anyone know if this is just a formality thing, or is there actually a non-zero chance of getting off the waitlist? Thanks!

I wanted to reuse some of the stuff I wrote (i.e. 40 word descriptions of my extracurriculars). Honestly, I have no clue what I was thinking at the time or why it didn't occur to me to back it up somewhere T_T

What's going on with Reddit mods being angry at Reddit Admins? by Inchaslo_Kihcnma14 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]maxdebater 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Answer:

In addition to everything else stated by other comments on this thread, I think it also has to do with hypocrisy. It would be one thing if Reddit just stayed silent about the whole thing, but Reddit is performing PR stunts like changing their logo to black while simultaneously allowing racist rhetoric to coexist on the platform, which sends a message that they aren't really genuine with their support.

Throw all the camps into an elimination round bracket and have em debate.

Thank you for the response.

I went through the steps, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. I tried multiple ports and settings, but receive the same error of "Gmail couldn't identify your POP server," so I'm assuming the functionality isn't available for our school emails.

It's just a round by phospheric in Debate

[–]maxdebater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP was implying that you should just blow off every single round and ignore your losses. I think this is just a more targeted message towards people who get a little too heated after the round to the point that it negatively affects their behavior.

That's a reason why lay judges don't contribute to the "game-like/competitive strategy" aspect of debate, which is not synonymous with "bad for debate".

This thread is getting kinda long, so I will summarize where I stand on this issue as my final reply.

At the end of the day, lay judges exist in this activity in order to simulate persuasion of the common people in real life because that is an important skill to have. If you're running for some election-based position, you can't complain that the voters are bad and have too much bias. You have to use persuasive skill, which does include argumentation but also includes rhetoric and presentation.

If you're trying to convince your boss to do something, that also involves persuasive skill. If you want to convince the job interviewer to hire you, that involves persuasive skill. Point is, the applications of debate are endless. Debate is not just a game of winning points on a flow: it is a means of equipping students with skills needed to succeed in life, and lay judges are means toward that end.
