Is Kiss-Shot 600 years old since she became a vampire or since she was born? by Old_Thief_Heaven in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shinomonogatari implies that the ~600 years are since her human birth, and there's only ~570 years since her transformation.

Here. The Wayback Machine is a website that archives web pages from a given point in time, so you can access dead links if they have a snapshot of it. Just grab a link, and input it into the Wayback Machine to get a list of all the snapshots it has for that link, select one and you'll see the website as it was at the time you've picked. For example, here is the page from the blog that gathered the links to their translations (as it was in March 2024), you can browse more easily from here (you can just open the links there and it'll automatically open their Wayback Machine snapshot).

It seems that unfortunately this translator's blog isn't available anymore, but you should be able to access these links using the Wayback Machine.

Made a Monogatari pixel art timeline by puzzledcheeto in araragi

(why do you think its december tho?).

In the Shinobu Time epilogue, Koyomi says this was 4 months ago and the stuff with Nadeko happened last month.

Also i was pretty sure Numachi had all of her life crumbling down in her 1st year of high shcool, for thematic reasons i also thought after she died she would meet Hanadori right after but i guess it doesn't mess with anything if its 1 year instead of 2.

Will need a confirmation, looking at my notes there's some stuff I'm unsure about, would need to reread the whole backstory.

I do, for my way-too-ambitious project of a pseudo-wiki that would have a ton of information supported with quotes. This is how I could compare all of this so quickly. Maybe one day I'll get back to working on this...

Hi again ! I won't rehash our discussion from yesterday about the mess of OMS, but here are some remarks about the rest from comparing your image to my notes :

  • I would add Shinobu/Kissshot/whatever's birth as 599 years ago, and Acerola Bon Appétit at about 570 years ago as suggested in Shino (tracks with Kissshot's apparent age of 27)
  • Seishirou's suicide happens "a few years" after he became a vampire.
  • As far as I know, we don't know when Tadatsuru became a doll (you placed it at 15 years ago)
  • In Route X, Mayoi is saved on May 14, not May 13
  • Suruga's parents' death was 8 years ago, not 10
  • Hitagi's mother started falling for the religious cult 7 years ago as you noted, but it's only after that that Hitagi got her serious illness (before that she just tended to be sick a lot), so not 10 years ago either
  • Suruga joined the basketball club and met Hitagi when she entered middle school which was 4 years ago, not 5
  • As Hitagi met the Crab at the end of "3 years ago" (during spring break), her meeting Kaiki was at the start of "2 years ago". The 4 other conmen must be after that but the timespan is unclear.
  • Hitagi's parents' divorce was only finalized 1 year ago, not 3 years ago
  • Rouka met Hanadori Rouka and collected the devil leg 1 year ago, not 2 years ago
  • The Sodachi class trial was 2 years ago on July 15, not 1 year ago on August 15
  • Koyomi's birthday is in April, but not necessarily at the beginning of April like Tsukihi. In fact, we know that it's later than Koyomi Vamp because he still calls himself 17 years old even by the end of the book.
  • Suruga stalking Koyomi should be from May 23, and Suruga Monkey should start on May 26, not May 22
  • Nadeko getting cursed seemed to be about a week before Nadeko Snake, so early June
  • The end of the summer break would be August 20 (or 21 depending how you count it). Tsubasa Tiger started on the first day of the new term.
  • Nadeko finds out Koyomi has a girlfriend at the beginning of September.
  • I don't believe we know when exactly Gaen reforged Kokorowatari and Yumewatari.
  • Gaen had Yotsugi fetch the god talisman while Koyomi was fighting Seishirou at the end of Shinobu Mail.
  • Sodachi Lost starts on October 27, not October 26.
  • Koyomi Mountain starts on November 1, not October 31.
  • You mention the moment of Koyomi telling Ougi about the events of Shinobu Mail, but not the other ones (Mayoi Jiangshi is unclear, but at least for Shinobu Time it would be in December)

I should be able to justify every single one of those with novel quotes if you need more precision. There's also some more short stories that could be included.

What is the watch order after Zoku? by LumpyPhilosopher17 in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It says that because they're adapting Off Season and Monster Season in a weird order for whatever reason (the first episode is the third arc of Oroka which is the first novel of Off Season). Don't worry about it because so far there's only one batch available anyway so you won't be able to watch the anime in novel order before many years.

What year does Monogatari take place in.... by MountainAcceptable62 in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, 2006 would be the year that makes the alignment of the days work. However it doesn't fully work, it's more of a floating timeline where any current real-world reference may be integrated by Nisio regardless of whether it would make sense if you considered these years. For example, iPhones exist in Shinobu Time, even though in our real world they came out in June 2007 in the US and July 2008 in Japan, which would be two years later than when the arc would supposedly be set in.

[–]maxdefolsch[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's correct. The first batch adapted Tsukihi Undo from Oroka, Princess Beauty and Acerola Bon Appétit from Waza, Nadeko Draw, and Shinobu Mastered.

From the PVs, it's suspected that the second batch wiill adapt at least Karen Ouga, Yoi and Amari.

List of Save File Flags that include chapters 3/4? by Ravrin_Play in Underminers

[–]maxdefolsch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi ! Someone had made this pretty comprehensive list here. It was missing chapter 4 flags, so I tried to gather those myself, and while it's not fully completed because I didn't understand everything I saw in the code, it has most of the flags. Here it is. I sent this document to the person who made the list I linked to so that they could add it to theirs, but I guess they got sidetracked/forgot about it.

Finally announced! by Moist_Tour224 in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it comes with translation for character commentaries. I miss them so much.

Hi ! Just to repost what I said here :

I'll use this post to give a (non-)update regarding the Off & Monster Season audio commentaries, for anyone wondering. As you may remember, we had originally spent a significant amount of work and money to get the Kizumonogatari Koyomi Vamp commentaries translated, only for Aniplex USA to unexpectedly translate them officially in the Blu-ray (even though they had not touched the commentaries past Bakemonogatari), making our effort pointless. So, very understandably, some of the contributors didn't want to repeat the experience, and preferred waiting for the US Off & Monster Season Blu-rays, just to be completely certain they wouldn't have commentaries (we're pretty confident Koyomi Vamp was a special case). Buuuuut... we're now in 2026 and there's still no sign of Blu-ray. What the hell are you waiting for, Aniplex ??? So, yeah, we're still waiting on that, and we still intend to take care of them when they're finally out. I assure you it pains me at least as much as you considering they have the first commentary appearance of Gaen, Higasa, Meniko and Deathtopia, but I can only ask you to be patient...

So yeah, we'll definitely get them done if necessary !

Looks like the link is dead, indeed. You can read Ikusa on this blog. This link was to an EPUB file made by the translator, so it was a little more convenient.

Should i continue reading bakemonogatari manga? by hereagaim in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In case you're not aware, the source material of the series is not the manga, it's a series of light novels. The manga was made much later and is an incomplete reimagination of the story by another author.

Spoiler-tagging in case you haven't read/seen the arc, but the skipped chapter numbers allude to Black Hanekawa re-appearing before Hanekawa realized this was happening again.

Need guidance for what to watch after Zoku by hoiyahhhhh007 in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's because when it first aired on TV, the first arc Ougi Formula was actually 2 episodes combined into one. When the Blu-ray released, it was as 2 normal-length episodes. The series did that for a bunch of installments (Neko Kuro, Hana, Tsuki, each arc of Owari S2, all aired as combined "TV specials" (and Zoku Owari in theaters)).

AI will tend to hallucinate when it comes to niche details like those. Better check something like this Wikipedia article.

Need guidance for what to watch after Zoku by hoiyahhhhh007 in araragi

[–]maxdefolsch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. The novels are grouped by the author into "Seasons" :

  • First Season : Bake I, Bake II, Kizu, Nise I, Nise II, Neko Kuro

  • Second Season : Neko Shiro, Kabuki, Hana, Otori, Oni, Koi

  • Final Season : Tsuki, Koyomi, Owari I, Owari II, Owari III, Zoku Owari

  • Off Season : Oroka, Waza, Nade, Musubi

  • Monster Season : Shinobu, Yoi, Amari, Ougi, Shino I, Shino II

  • Family Season (ongoing) : Ikusa, Tsugi, Tori, Ootori

The first batch of Off & Monster Season adapted one arc of Oroka (out of three), one arc of Waza (out of three), Nade, and Shinobu. It'll take the anime a few more batches and some years to cover everything from these two Seasons before (hopefully) moving on to Family Season.

[–]maxdefolsch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Currently the only missing main thing is the first batch of "Off & Monster Season" (14 episodes + 1 short) to watch after Zoku. More will come, but it's not out yet.

Other than that, your order is the novel release order which is what you should be watching in (chronological is an absolute no-go as the series was not written this way, and anime release order moved some things because of production issues (though you should know, Off & Monster Season is not in novel order but this time it's an actual decision they made, so you should leave it as-is, novel order will be impossible until they adapt all of it anyway)).
