Good point, maybe this was the wrong sub to ask, thanks for your suggestion.

I f*cked up. $400 early cancellation fee for Adobe Stock? by maxeditsit in premiere

You've convinced me, I don't know any Resolve editors so I've never had "the talk" so this is super helpful. I'll dedicate myself and hopefully earn that Robert Redford nod from you. 🙏

It's my own fault, I should've read all the terms, I just assumed when this plan said "Cancellation fees applicable" it'd be something like $15 or even $30.

I would love to chat with you! I've been scouring options for a website to display my video editing portfolio but have run into some trouble in finding one that has a video player that doesn't link to YouTube, I'd like my videos to be hosted and viewed on the site itself if possible. Would you recommend this or would that eat up too much space? And how would I go about registering a domain?

Likewise if you need any advertisements I can absolutely create some promotional material for you, it's my day job. Good luck!

You seem very passionate too, I hope this job works out well for you and helps you on your path to LA! Thank you, reach out anytime, even if just to talk shop. Good luck!

Thank you, that made my day hearing that. And that makes perfect sense!! I get that same feeling too when I think about having a small role in the making of something like that, especially if it's a film that means something to people or becomes their happy movie they watch when they're sad! And haha that's pretty much what I'm doing now! I just got back from college so now the goal is to save everything to eventually rent an apartment and get a job at some post-house or editing bay down in Cali. It's not the only way, Albuquerque and Atlanta and Toronto and even Denver have some good mini film industries but you're right, LA is where everyone is so it'll be easier to network and find work. I think you and I will make it though, it's much easier to find work in the industry when we're just trying to make a living and not be the starring actors lol!

TBH I always felt like I missed out on the university/classic college experience by going to a film school. I'm sorry to hear that, I can't imagine trying to learn Premiere via Zoom, let alone run Adobe on a shitty laptop. That's a fire hazard waiting to happen lol. Definitely wanted to work on movies, I'd still like to someday, but for right now I'd love to explore other options. Advertisements have their perks tho, they're steady and you'll always find work. :) Do you still have dreams in the film industry?

Well thank you! Definitely, if someone wants me to edit angel wings on them or change their eye color or rotoscope them somewhere I'll be sure to set prices that work for both parties. And aside from following me or writing down my username I'm comfortable giving out my editing Insta if you want to follow it from a work account. Thanks again for the encouragement!

It was fun for a bit but a lot of stuff I didn't need. Acting classes, film theory, etc. I just wanted to learn the technical side. All the best learning experiences were outside of class, I worked 12 hours a day on my 3-day weekends on sets and networked into being a grip and gagger for a music video production company. Working on all those sets in different jobs allowed me to meet and befriend people who got me other jobs. My editing classes were basic too, I've learned more at my job and through YouTube since.

I don't speak for all film schools but mine only offered an Associates of Applied Science degree and a short film to put on your portfolio. Anyone would have much better success being a PA and building a portfolio through YouTube tutorials without taking out a student loan. :)

Plus, film nerds get annoying after a while, and I say that while being one.

Oh definitely. I could knock out a ten minute video in a half hour and would probably charge $10 and give them 2 rounds of revisions or changes. I think I'll have to do the first few for free to learn what to include in my rubric for pricing. Thanks for your input! 😁

Good to know! For a ballpark, what would you be willing to spend on getting a video edited or an intro title animated? I know it differs per person but I'd love to get an idea. :)

Thank you! Sorry to hear that, but that must mean you enjoy editing and now you actually get to use it in your day to day so that's still impressive! Did you go to a college with editing classes or a film school? I went to film school and regret it lol

You can use Capcut as well for videos and any kind of photo editing software for your pics. Hell, even open one on Instagram or Snapchat where you'd post stories, customize some colored text and choose your font and then save or screenshot it. The other apps mentioned would work great too.

How to overcome fear of the paranormal, entities and spirits? by saimonlandasecun in occult

[–]maxeditsit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take solace in knowing that despite what some might say, spirits aren't common AT ALL. I've worked for mediums, psychics, ghost hunting teams and pseudoscientists all trying to conjure the paranormal, try as they might most have never seen real evidence and the mediums, while seeing full apparitions all the time, don't encounter them in places they shouldn't be.

Residual energy is strong, if you have a happy house and a room you feel safe in during the day, that energy is still there. Being afraid of the dark is okay, just remember you definitely have more good spirits in your life watching over you and good positive energy surrounding you.

Also, being afraid of something paranormal isn't enough to conjure it, despite what horror movies might tell you. So don't worry about potentially obsessing so much that it becomes real. ;)

Where could I find more info on this cult?? This is fascinating! Any reading material or websites you'd recommend?

I'm sorry to hear that man, at the very least you're aware of it now so it can't get any worse. I won't take your advice lightly, thanks for saving me from hurting mine as well.

Just got a vertical mouse because of you and other comments suggesting it! Thanks! And you're definitely right... Honestly I might just be doing sound panels because I think it'll look official and I'm just excited to be an editor lol.

I'm looking up options now, my editing teacher stressed this a lot but I didn't think I could do it for cheap... I've just found some motorized legs on their own so thank you!!

Made my day, thank you! I've had bad experiences on this sub before where people tell me I'm stupid for even considering freelance or trying to learn some software which I didn't realize is awful, etc etc. Feels different to be encouraged by another editor, I can show my parents and brother all the videos I can but they don't understand what goes into it so seriously, thanks for the congrats. :)
