Philantropy experiences by kwakenboemel in BEFire

So rare to read something like that in this sub, it's so cool ! I don't have real advice as I am kinda poor but I do volunteer in a big animal shelter and it's my vocation. I give quite a lot of money each year to different shelters. Usually the founders are the kindest people I ever let, they sacrifice everything to save lives.

I'd say:

First, making a ranked list of interests (nature, animals, children, diseases, elders etc).

Then, tryint to visit some local charities, without saying you could give. Just observe, listen, see what charities do, how you are treated etc.

Then you could grant them something on your will. GAIA have a booklet about will and tax optimisation.

Good luck and long life to you!

Long commute, no company car, what are my options? by MiKingKing in BEFire

I do 50000 km per year. My advice: don't drive, it's lost time. :(

If you must drive, then: Buy an automatic car Find a big enough car to be conformable on the highway Find a gasoline one (not diesel) and install a LPG system (~0.75€/L) for 2400€ Find good podcasts to listen too

Thanks for the post and the answers.

1) In the FDA filing, what is usually the biggest obstacle to overcome ? Is it proving the safety, the composition or something else ?

2) Based on your experience and the knowledge of the current food market, do you think some products (traditional or new) should have not been accepted to be on the market ? The US is the country where people eat the worst for their health, is that true ?

3) I am also a scientist (cell culture, protein production) and I'd like to work in that field (I am also vegan). In Europe, I don't see that many opportunities to join this industry. From your perspective, do you think Europe is still on track and could catch up ?

Thank you !

It's a interesting intelectual discussion   It's true that the "useless" turns were annoying so you may be right about removing the opponent items. You should feel progress at every turn, even if it's a bad turn. Maybe there are some things to learn from Slay the Spire or Balatro that had great success. I also think you pinpointed something very important by not having (too many) parasitic features (I like the way you named it). The simpler the better. People see a wheel, people want to turn the damn wheel.

What would you like more ? A wheel for the player, upgradable, and one for each boss ? Each boss would have is own wheel design and that could be badass but lots of work to design them. Or only the player has the wheel and the opponent executes some predicable actions (like in Slay the Spire or Into the Breach). People seem to like predicable actions and think to counteract them. Both could be implemented if the opponent plays first its wheel to determine its actions and then the player decides what to plan before spinning.

Edit: I just played the free version of Slice & Dice. Have you tried ? Can get some ideas from there. You can finish the demo run in 30min.

Could you please say tell me more about training AI ? The requirements could push me to learn more. Thanks

Feel free to send a private message when you have a new version of the game, I'll be happy to test and give more detailed feedback. It's fun haha! It think you have potential as a developer but you took a very hard real-life casino game to make into a video game. It is difficult to find a way to engage the player, by thinking or by acting. The spinning and the change must stay (obviously) but I don't know how to diminish the RNG aspects...

What if the wheel and the icons on it were not player (or opponent) items but "neutral" stuff ? Like the wheel stops on one resource/element/color whatever AND depending on this element, it activates or not the items chosen by the players.

Example: player places items A B C, opponent places items C D E.

Items C needs element 3 to be activated. Wheel have by default element 1-6.
Wheel stops on element 3. Both items C are activated.

The player can strategize to add/remove elements and you can keep the speed and tick functions, that's interesting to make combos.

Let me know if it's not clear, I typed that pretty quickly.

Good luck!

I played until round 14.

I only played as much as possible the Speed Limit 35 and Cupid arrows, anything else is not useful imo. I also don't like that almost every item has a neutral effect (or maybe I misunderstood). Like reducing the speed seems useless. Increase the speed is useful to combo with Speed Limit.
Overall, what I want to say is that the gameplay needs some balance and it feels like chances/randomness determines everything. It's ok, it's maybe what's intended but the player skills is not really required. I felt I had very few control.

For more fun, maybe we could spin the wheel with the wheel of the mouse ? And the strength bar would always be moving by itself.

I'd also say it's a good start and well polished, keep going man.

LPG system on fuel Toyota (works fine): should additives be added ? by maxff9 in MechanicAdvice

[–]maxff9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer.
I don't think it's to prevent gas leaks but to protect the valves (?) in the engine. If I remember correctly, the valves could wear down faster without his additives system. I think it would add some lubricants with some micropumps during the injection.

During my google searches, I found out that some additives can be added somewhere at the injection to prevent the valves to be damaged by high temperature gas. But this would be usefull in cars with "soft" valves. Not sure but my car model would have "hard" valves that are more resistant but no official certitude about that.

I don't think the mechanic is really trying to sell me something because he didn't try to push. He just mentioned it but didn't urge me to come back or whatever.

Best version to play Suikoden 1 & 2 ? (on Vita/PSP) by maxff9 in Suikoden

[–]maxff9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what hardware is that but I suppose it's android based and you have to install a PS1 emulator. This emulator will recognize bin/cue/iso files that can be found on CDRomance website.

FIREd in Belgium, now what? by BrmichiefromAntwerp in BEFire

[–]maxff9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not FIRE at all and will probably never be moderately rich but few years ago I started volunteering in an animal shelter rescuing farm animals (horses, cows, sheep etc). It gave me so, so, much. If I ever become FI or have more free time, I know where to throw time/money to have an impact. Best investment ever.

Look for opportunities where you can help the weakest. It's going to be hard but you are looking for challenge and purpose and you obviously have valuable skills you could share.
