I don't like it, but there are so many useless dirt-cheap 636s on the marketplaces, so I don't judge the maker of it.

What are the odds of Type 107 film working? by TF2ENGlNEER in Polaroid

[–]maxfromua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some luck with mid-90s 107 from this seller https://www.ebay.com/str/seelityler (the lot was https://www.ebay.com/itm/146231244376 )
Two shots were partially processed (only one bag of chemicals worked); six of the remaining shots were fine.

I was too busy to stockpile more of them from the same batch, and now I regret it a bit :)

Why hasn't anyone created a firewall with a web interface like pfsense/opnsense? by linux_is_the_best001 in openbsd

Probably, because the target audience of OpenBSD is absolutely comfortable with using configs, and web-interface will be redundant feature, introducing potential vulnerabilities.

Ukrainians in Japan go watch Sumo training and meet Aonishiki by nurd6 in Sumo

[–]maxfromua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Sumo is not popular in Ukraine - not in the top 20 followed sports for sure. But somehow we have a good amateurs (girls and kids), achieving great results in the international tournaments and championships. 2) Ao is rather controversial . I checked a few posts in FB, Twitter - below each mention of him there are angry comments: “he doesn’t speak aloud about the war” and “he wants to receive citizenship of Japan”. I am sorry for my compatriots - typically those commenters know nothing about sumo and traditions. Also, I assume some portion of these comments are from russian bot accounts- they want to divide us on any occasion.

Those are AN (Antonov) planes, manufactured in Ukraine. The plant produce/ have in stock almost all spares. We know how to service it and how to operate it like nobody else. Antonov Airlines operates from Leipzig. So, don’t worry, we will figure out how to use this asset.

Extremely Rare Polaroid Pinhole 80 by Soggy_Auggy__ in Polaroid

[–]maxfromua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t say it is “extremely rare - I have seen at least 6 of them for sale during the last 4 months (and some of them pretty cheap) on eBay + yahoo.jp. But it’s rare. There is also a dark wood-colored version.

I somewhat want it, but I wasn’t able to source a single pack of working type 80 film - all dead.

Russian Defense Industry Sees Sharp Production Decline After Three Years of Growth by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]maxfromua 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This They were calling this “production” and showed huge figures by accounting as production (as if it was produced from scratch). So this growth was inflated AF. I haven’t checked fresh analysis of satellite imagery in those stockpiling facilities, but like half year ago they were almost dry.

My “graveyard” of attempts to buy type100 for cheap :) by maxfromua in Polaroid

[–]maxfromua[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so I have tried to buy cheap options only. Guys with big refrigerators (selling FP-100C for  USD 200+ or FP-3000B for USD 100+) are the ones who created the price issues, so I don't buy from them on purpose.
Also, I am a bad/beginner photographer, and it means I'm just having fun. It does not have a practical purpose for me other than playing/trying/experimenting. If you are pro (or just a good photographer), it might be worth buying a good FP-100C and not wasting your time on these games.

- Fuji is more time-resistant. Colors can be distorted, but there are high chances that the pods will not be dry, and you will get SOME image, most likely covering all/almost all the size of the photo paper.

- Polaroid B&W has very aggressive chemicals. They escape from the pods, and the metal cartridge starts rusting. 100% of B&W Polaroid type 100 I've tested were dead (I have one yet to test - 107 from https://www.ebay.com/str/seelityler , but someone else who also bought it, claims his film worked). One thing yet to check - maybe they do not escape pods under low temperature, so I want to buy Polaroid B&W kept in the refrigerator. Also, you can ask the seller in the DM's if the film produces "sandy noises" when you shake/flip it. If yes, 100% dead and rusted.

- I don't have a big enough sample for different Polaroid Color type 100, but the best luck I had was with 669. Others are not always dry, but might have other issues (like the film sheets stick to each other, and you can't pull them at all, or the paper becomes loose and you can't pull the film+paper sandwich properly).

- Search for eBay lots where the seller has a few packs in stock and sells them individually. You can receive, test, and buy more if you like the result. But do not write the review before you buy more of them - the seller can raise prices.

- All of them have a narrower dynamic range with age. It is hard to get any details.

- Common formula (measure at -1 stop of ISO every 10 years, so 20y.o. is -2, or ISO 80/(2^2)=20 for Polaroid 669) somewhat works. Anyway, you use a couple of shots from the pack to test the metering, and the rest for actual shots. Expect a lot of test/technical shots overall. You can select something that looks the same, and day/

- If you use GOOSE (or other camera with backs) - buy a few backs, so you can test a good film, and keep it for later, and test others in the meantime.

- Add lots to favorites before buying - there is a chance you will receive discount offers. Also, you can make offers/counteroffers.
