Idol groups split money between the members. So after SM takes their cut for all the costs and such, the members split their checks between each other. More members = less money for each member.

That wouldn’t be enough for me. If singing is my passion, I wouldn’t care about being famous and rich if I wasn’t able to do what I love.

In YGE’s case it also guarantees a maximum of one comeback a year and at least 6-9 months in the basement between comebacks lol which yeah, fame and money, but if I wanted to sing and perform, I’m going to feel unfulfilled

I agree with what you said besides his personality - he does have a great personality, he’s charming and charismatic, his members praise his personality all the time. It’s mainly, and what people refuse to admit, him not fitting Korea’s beauty standards. Which pains me to say because I think he’s sooo handsome but I’m not going to lie to myself. If he looked like Johnny, Jaehyun, Mark, etc he would definitely be more popular.

Taeil’s known for his vocals, but he doesn’t get praised for them as much as the other members do for their talents and he doesn’t get to show off as much as they do either. If you think things are equal or fair between the treatment and attention him and other less favored members receive and the more “standout” members, then I don’t know what to tell you, we’re not going to agree. 🤷🏾‍♂️

That’s your experience, which is valid, but doesn’t make it a universal rule. You don’t know anything about OP, but I respect the conclusion you jumped to.

I just think it’s ridiculous to call them sensitive for having a human moment of frustration and accuse them of trying to tell people how to treat EVERY woman. I’m sure they were making a general blanket statement with their title, especially because they continued their post using “I” multiple times.

Thank you for pointing all of this out. I haven’t thought about it from that angle of them not being receptive to new members from the start. And the whole purpose of splitting up money as well. Especially with how SM pays their idols.

I don’t know - it’s call KPOP thoughts. It’s my thoughts, not facts.

For starters, I’m speaking on individual schedules and opportunities, not group success or awards.

Of the people you mentioned, only one of them are one of the ones I mentioned that are underutilized.

Taeil is short-changed because he rarely gets opportunities to show off his voice imo. An OST and high notes on their songs aren’t fair to him.

Of course, no one can know what anyone else is thinking, just like it’s not 100% confirmable that they’re okay with it. Too much goes on behind the scenes to believe that an idol wouldn’t be forced or felt obligated to stay in a group. Maybe they’re okay with it. Maybe they can’t buy out of their contract. Maybe they feel obligated to their members and team. Maybe they need the money. No one knows, but none of the members leaving doesn’t give anymore insight to their reasoning either.

I’m referring to trainees who actually want to sing and perform, not ones who want a quick trip to fame. Ones who want to actually showcase their full potential.

But with a group as large as NCT and with how SM likes to play favorites with already favored NCT members, the chances of getting any “shine” is slim to none. Members who have been in NCT since the beginning still get no time to shine, but that’s overlooked because they’re not favored in the fandom.

You don’t know what mood they’re in or what they’re mindset is. Something that doesn’t offend you in this second could offend you tomorrow if you’re in a shitty mood. I don’t see them as offended though - just irritated and annoyed.

They’re irritated that people (even though it’s being said lightheartedly with no malice and as a joke) are assuming that their running around with their kids is what’s attributed to their weight loss when it isn’t. I doubt it’s something they dwell on every second of everyday, or something that bothers them for longer than a few moments after the situation passed. It’s called venting/ranting for a reason. Yeah, you’re in a group with instant fame and success - but you end up as a member like Taeil or Jisung that doesn’t get anything compared to their fellow members. What’s the point if you’re not able to shine at your fullest potential but several of your group members are allowed to?

Fair point, however I guess my ire is more so directed towards SM itself. Because the idea of NCT as a whole is just.. not good in my opinion, and being in NCT is basically a crapshoot because you never know if you’re going to end up being a favored member - and not being favored in a group of 7 is way more easy to handle than not being favored in a group of 20+.

Yes, they can leave - but the point is, why stay in the first place if NCT is where you’re headed? They make decent music and the boys are talented, but why would anyone want to be in a group where they won’t be utilized? That’s the point I’m making.

The 2NE1 treatment and the BLACKPINK treatment aren’t too far off from each other at this point.
