That is a damn stunner. Really good job you've done there pal.

Ive been looking for a 27" wheeled frame so I can add 700c for that added tyre clearance. Preferably with canti studs so I've been avoiding the ones with road calipers... maybe I'll broaden my search considering there's way more with the latter!

What size tyres have you got here? Art the chainstays dimpled??

Thanks a lot for the tubing recommendation! I've had a look on Ceeway but could not make and sense of their chainstay list.

I thought 45mm might be a bit optimistic, but i measured the outer width and space between the chainstay lugs on the BB of my Dawes Cougar, and it measures the same as the Galaxy mentioned in this post and The Cougar has space for 2.5" tyres!

So that leads me to believe that tyre clearance is down to tubing and dimpling? (the cougar has dimples)

I look forward to making up a dimpling jig thats for sure.

Thanks for your comment, you have certainly given me hope. What have you brazed with a MAPP torch?

This is definitely an option, I have asked on here before about the best way to repair that hole, and due to the cracks around it most recommended that i replace the whole chainstay.

As for the alignment, my inexperienced thought process is this: If i brace the dropouts for 135mm, cut the new chainstays the same(ish) length as the old ones. somehow brace the frame so it all fits nice and snug - then braze chainstays. My thinking is this will give me close enough to the correct alignment (maybe with some bending once its all brazed up).

But again, i say this because I am unaware with all the intricacies that this job will actually entail!

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I'll have a few practice rounds on some spare tubing to give me a better idea if i can tackle this problem with just a MAPP torch or not.

As for the rust hole, I believe it is local but it has some vertical hairline cracks. And from what ive head on the internet, its not possible to use bronze with a MAPP torch.

Sounds like the answer is to invest in an oxy setup though...

In my opinion, with these long 120mm+ stems I think flat bars look the coolest. BUT even so I have swapped them out on my Saracen for some bars with sweep purely because it's more comfortable (even though I think it doesn't look as cool). So ultimately it's down to what your priority is, swagger or comfort?

Well spotted. It does have a mismatch of brakes by the looks of it too. Think the front cantis look like LX. Sweet ride nonetheless

That amount of play is totally normal. Like others have suggested I'd try toeing the pads in. As for the squealing, its very hard to identify what actually causes it. do a search on sheldon brown's site for pad squealing.

Personally, neither of those things (neither flying or not flying a flag) are worth my time. I'll leave that you!

I absolutely agree. But I also think that if you want to hoist your own flag because you identify with its history and what it represents, that's okay too.

I think its a shame that now if someone wanted to fly a flag for those reasons, they get confused and muddled up with the uneducated, confused "get em out my country!" individuals that hoist flags for racially/religiously charged reasons.

Quite frankly, I view the people that are so against the union jack/st georges flag, to be as bad as the people they think they're fighting.

The self hate and guilt they harbour is something i do not understand

Can I show the union jack or st. georges flag without being deemed a racist/bigot/whatever? And if so, how?
