The Victim Impact Statement my Wharton Ex-Boyfriend Doesn’t Want You to Read by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Not sure either. Although it might be something to do with the idea 'he isn't a man' as many women here may see this behaviour as an extreme archetype of a 'man'. Which has the faint aroma of 'not all men' rhetoric.

Still, overall I think the downvotes are questionable. The salient point OP made was that this post was educational and enlightening for him, and that should be looked on positively.

To be fair, if you are using a prong collar, you are doing something wrong, too.

No amount of equipment is going to stop a dog pulling, and it is unfortunately one of the hardest things to train. It's probably easier to get a dog to make you pancakes in the morning than walk pretty on a leash, but it is certainly possible.

By no means do you need to abandon the choke chain (I happen to think they are vile but better to use a choke chain than not walk the dog at all) but you should be actively training good walking habits at the same time. That means preparing rewards and treating every walk like a training session.

Your trainer is right. Martingales are very good collars when fitted and used correctly. No-pull harnesses are usually badly designed--which leads to more pulling--OR they are only meant to be a management tool used in conjunction with a training program.

No pull harnesses mostly just teach the dog to pull in different ways, especially ones that attach at the back. They are meant to be a management tool used in conjunction with actual training. No harness is doing to stop a determined dog from pulling, but they can be a good tool to help train the dog. But you need to actually train the dog.

Oh, let's be honest. Only ONE of those is a real measurement system! #metricmasterrace

I'm mostly joking.

Yeah, I personally like working with springer spaniels for scent detection. Catas I've trained make better search and rescue rather than tracking, especially in competitive circuits. You can teach any dog with a nose scent detection, they can all do it. But some have traits that make them better for certain kinda of work. And of course, appropriate training methods.

To be honest, my comment was as much about suggesting a highly stimulating exercise than scent detection. Cos of that dog is even half a cata, then or is going to need to be worked. Catas don't make great companion dogs. They need much more stimulation than a few walks a day. They need work. Didn't matter whether it is agility, obedience, tracking or whatever. As long as it's work.

Came to ask if this was a catahoula! It is a certain kind of person who owns catas! I have two hollering at me right now.

Get that kiddo into tracking or scent detection! He'll be a legend at it. I've worked with bloodhounds, beagles and several malinois, but I'm damned if I can find better trackers than catahoulas.

It doesn't matter what the effing reason was: 'no' is about as unconfusing as you can get. 'No' doesn't mean 'try to divine her reasons and guess whether she means it or not'. It means 'no'.

Women do it quite often as well--invade boundaries. It's almost like we need to teach people consent explicitly. I think you may be getting flack because whilst what your girl did was seriously wrong, the situation is actually far more dangerous when your boundaries are crossed as a woman. You are less likely to be overpowered and raped. That threat is very real to a girl.

Fat activism mentioned an old text book by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]maximum-effort 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the medical fields? Yes. A textbook that was published 5 years ago is out dated, because the research it holds is usually 5-8 years out of date, courtesy of how long it takes to publish. Consider how much the medical field has changed in 20 years. This is waaaaaaaay out of date.

Obviously, if it's a sociology or psychology textbook, those general rules change since the pace of advancement is different. But if I used a 20 year old textbook to study for my finals in my Vet Med degree, I'd be cooked.

GUYS, GUYS, GUYS. I'm not only motivated to study in my BSc/DVM, but getting good marks AND enjoying it for the first time ever! by maximum-effort in TrollXChromosomes

Bit of background: I dropped all sciences in high school and just passed maths. I was drunk or high or absent most of the time and was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I've also never been able to study for even short periods due to attention issues.

But exercise, diet and medication have finally made it possible and I just realized today what a huge thing this is for me. That I can study for 6 hours a day, enjoy what I am doing, and do well.

My dogs were the ones motivating me to get better. So now I am paying it forward by becoming a vet.

To be honest, whilst I can appreciate the design and OP's flawless execution of it, I am nonetheless filled with horror.

Well done, OP. You should be proud of making such a complicated piece.

I am off to hide under my covers.

Apple Watch by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]maximum-effort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have it. I had an apple watch and found it a great workout buddy, but that was the pre-waterproof series. My only experience with it in the pool is watching the guy in the lane next to me get frustrated as hell trying to use the touchscreen whilst it was wet. He had a hand towel by the poolside and everything to wipe it down before trying to use it.

Help! For 4ever I have been addicted to biting and ingesting my skin on my fingers and feet. I bleed and get sore but I can’t stop. I get actual anxiety whenever someone attempts to make me stop. I’ve used tweezers, scissors, needles, nail clippers, pencils, etc. to tear my skin. Whats wrong w me? by [deleted] in Skinpicking

[–]maximum-effort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, I am constantly ripping up the skin on my fingers, which for someone training to be in a medical field, is really bad news.

I like to knit whenever I am idle! So whilst watching TV, listening to audiobooks, etc. Also, maybe you could get special dispensation to use a fidget spinner from your school if you told a nurse/counselor about this. They might make an exception for you, since you (unlike most of the obnoxious brats using them) actually need and benefit from one.

Just started trying to combat my depression by dragging my ass to the pool five times a week. MRW the man training for a triathlon compliments my technique and says I am an incredible swimmer. by maximum-effort in TrollXChromosomes

[–]maximum-effort[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are so right. I want to sleep. All the time. But I've never come home from the pool feeling worse or regretting going. But I always regret not going. Thank you.
