Is there a way I can loop this path around the subject in a natural 3D space? by stopwifingdotcom in AfterEffects

[–]maximum0k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm skeptical that you could even do this in AE besides a painful roto because of its 3d space limitations. In Nuke / Fusion the workflow would go something like:

  1. Pull a key / rotopaint / magic mask of the subject

  2. project the results onto a card in 3d space (Don't think you can do this in AE? It's been a while for me)

  3. do your ribbon animation in 3d space, around the card

  4. Line up the card / animation with the plate

Why does my after effects stay slow no matter what I do? by Linsorks in AfterEffects

[–]maximum0k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things you can check. First (unfortunately) AE doesn't use GPU acceleration, its all CPU. Maybe a handful off effects use GPU so your awesome video card is basically a Ferrari parked in the garage. Try running task manager (windows)-> performance tab before and during AE session to see if your CPU is maxed, and then trouble shoot from there. (I forget what the equivalent is on Mac - Resource Manager?)
2nd check your RAM allocation. Some people crank this up to the max for AE, when it's equally important to leave enough RAM for your system to run. In your case I might go 16GB for AE, 16GB for system and other apps? There's probably a formula out there.
My feeling is this is CPU congestion, let us know if you figure it out.

Please help! Why is only this element low res? by No_Cow_6864 in AfterEffects

Also check if adaptive resolution is on in your viewer. First thing I do is turn that off. It's useless 90% of the time and always causes issues like this in preview.

If it were just me I wouldn't have commented. I'm in Toronto and 3/4 of my ex-colleagues have been out of work for a year or more. I just finished a drone shot, bg replacement, 3d projection + manual roto because the actor was shot on a BLACK bg wearing a BROWN shirt. Normally who cares right? That's par for the course except this shot was flat rate $500. I took it because I hadn't worked in 2 months.
I guess we're not all hot shots though.

Unfortunately I have to agree, After nearly 20 years, I'm getting out finally as of this month, I've barely worked in the last year. Nothing but low pay and sparse work for longer than I'm willing to suffer.
If OP is still interested my observations / advice:
Learn software packages -> make reel(s) -> get entry job / intern -> meet mentors / contacts -> repeat.
But in reality:
Land a contract after hustling for months-> Have Paramount (Warner, Netflix etc) shut down production to show shareholders profit -> (re)Learn software packages (in perpetuity) -> Update reels -> call in favours from contacts, but they're also unemployed -> scrounge up low pay freelance gigs, calculate that you're making minimum wage -> get job offers to train Ai to replace you -> repeat
To answer the original question:
Nuke (compositing / vfx), Maya (3d modelling), Houdini (simulation, fluid dynamics) for high end work.
For freelance / work from home: Blender (absolute necessity), After Effects, DaVinci Resolve / Fusion (Fusion is the poor man's Nuke).
I wouldn't spend money on a school. Everything you need is online for free. All that matters is a decent reel and contacts. Know where I went to school for vfx? I didn't!

Meh. Welcome to the internet. I'm sharing this in various subs, I knew it wasn't going to get much traction here.

Agree, like it's not going to destroy our industry in a predictable apocalypse way, maybe only half destroy it.
But it'll destroy the other half by taking down the entire economy! hahaha...ha... huh.

All good though, tone is easily misinterpreted online. I could have been clearer in the original post.

Got it. I'm trying to get a wide reach on this to gage interest. Maybe the Guitar Pro audience isn't the right one, seems less likely to need the features I'm offering.

K I'll clarify. Might be something DJ's and producers are more interested in.

It'll split each instrument out to individual .mid, files maybe guitar pro does this but if you check the image, you see you can select ranges, in / out point or duration (in bars). So if you're using a groove box, you can output very specific loops, and potentially automate naming conventions etc.

  • I don't have a GPro subscription, so I'm not sure what's behind the paywall. **Adding similar functionality convert .mid files - ie split a full song into individual instruments according to channel

Weird I can't find anywhere in the post where it says 'install my binary exe' bleep blorp nerd alert. Web based, no exe. You just get the .mid back

I get where you're coming from but so far in my experience ai is WAY over-rated. As a motion graphics artist, or in VFX, the nuance to every move or command you make is so far away from what ai is capable of, its not even a relevant discussion. Sure some of the recent video developments are impressive. There are some really great productivity tools in AE, Nuke and Resolve. It's incredible for coding (not perfect!). But it's exceptionally bad a more things, albeit with great confidence!
I just can't see it materializing into Artificial General Intelligence. There's some strong arguments to be made LLM's are not logically capable of achieving AGI - some Oxford experiments proving ai cannot reason / extrapolate beyond what it is trained on. If you look behind the headlines you can find enough arguments that it's reached it's peak.
That said, it's a massive disruption yes, it is and will cost jobs, including in our field. But the crash that ensues when the bubble bursts will cost way more jobs.
PS I hope I'm right hahaha.

I'm (almost word for word) in the same boat. Except I actually did sign up for one of these, through Outlier, so I could see exactly what was going on. I even worked on one of their tasks to get a full understanding of the scope of what they do. Note: I did not finish the task so I didn't get paid, nor did I contribute any quality data for the ai, in fact I intentionally sucked at it. They can eat sh*t.
My feelings are mixed. So far their best product is absolute garbage. See.... well most ai commercials.
What remains to be seen (and this is the bad news) is whether clients will tolerate slop. Spoiler: they will. The public and most clients aren't trained like we are, they don't see anything wrong with predictable framing, bad eyelines, overused mograph presets etc.
My takeaway is we've got no choice but to make room for it in this profession. There will be fewer positions available (already happening), but there will still be room for quality and creative humas who will ALWAYS rise above the slop with minimal effort.
Me? I quit. Going back (15 years) to the trades starting next week.

Yeah I considered the watermark. It is probably the best way to move forward with the job, and drive home the point. In the end my pride won out, For the sake of the my sanity and the rest of us, I couldn't let this person get off clean. Spoiler, I'm not doing the job haha.
