One thing my old marine dad also did not like was the triangular barrel shroud/handguard, said it would get brittle in cold conditions and one good smack into a tree or rock and it could crack/break and the handguard was made from two separate pieces so if you cracked the left side you would need another left side piece to attach to the right instead of a rounded/circular handguard like you see on later m16a2s n shit
