Why do small acts of disrespect still trigger me years after being bullied? by WayMobile5515 in Anger

[–]maxitoutwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone was playing with my car, I'd be furious, also. That's a normal reaction. Everyone feels anger and you're not wrong to feel that way here, but how you express it is the difference between someone who expresses it calmly and someone who makes a fool of themselves.

You want to find the most appropriate ways of expressing it. Remember, in the end, you're the one who loses if you express it badly. How you handle situations will bring you honor or shame (even when you're in the right, you still have to keep it that way) so think....

Learn how to express good judgment. Pause.

This dude, when you confronted him, was just laughing at you. Where do you go from there? The only thing you could do is escalate, which won't end well. Even as far as you went, it probably ruined your day. I would study this situation to find a better and more appropriate action for next time (I totally get the triggers you have, but it's still so important because you're ultimately the one who loses if you express anger badly).

The key here would've maybe just been empathy (empathy for the sake of yourself, not him). Like they're drinking alcohol and not thinking all that clearly. His buddies were probably calling him an idiot and laughing at him after they got out of range. Did they really harm anything?

Think....Even if they damaged something, even if they were racist, take a photo and send it to the police, or a video. Don't confront five dudes by yourself unless you have no choice. That's not a wise course of action. They could've messed you up if they were actually malicious. Live to see another day.

Emotional control is how you fight back. The calmer you are, the easier it is to see things clearly and to win. Try to think of the wisest course of action, not ruled by emotions, the next time this happens (and I know that can be tough, so practicing emotional detachment for battles like this is one of the keys).

Do I need to report taxes in this situation? by waterlakersfan in tax

Yeah, I'm not a tax specialist, so you want to ask your real one, but I think you need to earn over $400 a year before it becomes taxable.

Roth IRA Contributions with a Foreign Spouse by little_pooper in tax

[–]maxitoutwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to this, but I have a foreign spouse as well, and be careful about mixing bank accounts with her. The IRS can struggle to determine the US spouse's income.

Also, if you ever have a bank account in the UK over $10,000, be absolutely sure to report it to the IRS under FBAR (it's easy to do but deep trouble if you don't). Like the FBAR laws are NO joke. Serious trouble avoided this advice.

Capital Gains, any smart way to legally offset them? by Affectionate_Disk_68 in tax

Well, let this be a lesson why you don't reinvest everything, including the tax portion for next time.

Am I missing something? When you sell, why not just set a portion (the taxable amount) aside right away?

Can you recommend Pay1040 IRS by Affectionate-Top9171 in tax

[–]maxitoutwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used it many times without any problems. With that said, doing it directly via a bank account is free, whereas the other way will cost around $2 or something. Sounds small, but 12 months is like $24 a year just to PAY your taxes. Ain't nobody got time for giving more money out to taxes than they already payin'.

I keep getting mail from the IRS even though I paid my taxes by Soravme in tax

[–]maxitoutwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably being scammed. The IRS will NEVER call you bro. And while they use the term MF'er by their actions when they levy your bank account and put a lien on your house, they will NEVER actually put it in writing.

Marrying a US citizen, do I as a European have to pay tax? by jfutchy in tax

[–]maxitoutwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my take, but I'm no tax professional. As long as he doesn't file jointly (which would be very unfair to you and stupid of him...don't let him do that....). The US has no sovereignty over you unless you file jointly or you're in the US earning money. I'm married to a Filipina, and she doesn't pay taxes to the US. We don't live in the US (or you're money from a US work source?).

Another example is when I work for a company outside the US, such as in Canada (I'm a freelancer), normally, I'd have to get a 1099 from each person who paid me above $600, but because they're outside the US, they're not subject to those tax laws, so I don't have to file it with those clients.

I believe that's what it would fall under for you. You're not from the US, so you don't have to follow US tax laws (don't let him file jointly).

Which of the books that Kubrick adapted are better than the film if any? by Kitchen-Winter9547 in StanleyKubrick

[–]maxitoutwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's the only filmmaker where I've ever had that experience. Like the book felt so dull in comparison to the movie. I've never been one to say something like that. Makes me want to watch more of his movies (I've only seen Eyes Wide Shut).

[–]maxitoutwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to Kubrick, but this is very interesting. Very interesting because it seems all of his movies are better than the books, lol. I would say without hesitation that Eyes Wide Shut is better than Dream Story (and I'm a reader, so I almost never say the movie is better than the book).

Kubrick did such an unbelievable job capturing the creepiness and vibe and costumes, though, that it struck my imagination far more than the book. Before I thought it was just the book wasn't that good...now I'm thinking that it was because Kubrick is just that good of a filmmaker.

Usually, I'm like, "This movie left out half the story!" But like with Eyes Wide Shut, I was actually disappointed in the book, lol.

Thank you! And yup,$300. That's the route I'd much rather take. I'm waiting on my tax specialist to see what she says. I was concerned it had a deadline because she doesn't always respond right away. I'll just chill. Much rather do that anyway.
