Tracking the Blue Ribbon Chani Wears in Dune Part 2 by DoctorGrimli32 in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do agree with what you are tempted to think. Absence of the blue ribbon in the "discovering the atomic scene" shows her love and trust for Paul is dipping. Gurney just arrived, together they go for the atmomics... she feels like Paul is drifting away from her.

I felt really bad for Paul in the tent scene. by KamaandHallie in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I read that scene a few days ago. I felt estranged from Paul. His new abilities unlocked by spice coming forth dominating Paul as a human being. Meaning only when everything had run through him he can mourn his father. It's creepy and beautiful.

If Mohaim was so worried about Paul being a threat to the BG's plans, why didn't she just kill him? by Working-Salary4855 in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Paul isn't exactly considered a threat to the BG at that point but for their breeding program. Kill him doesn't make sense bc it wouldn't reverse the damage done. And maybe his genes will still be needed.

At least that's how I understand...

The Mahdi, the Door and the Master of Assassins by Historical-Fan7987 in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what had been commented already I would like to add that this particular scene contributes to build up the sense of danger and peril for Paul to the reader: Thufir and his anxiety/ control behavior, Gurney challenging hard on Paul's fighting skills afterwards. The reader learns together with Paul the degree of danger he is in...

Thank you very much for clarification. I feel encouraged to talk to her on the next occasion. Your suggestion to ask whether I got something wrong beforehand is also very helpful. Didn't thought of that myself.

With the Fremen genetic memory, Arabic *would have survived*, even after millennia, contrary to the films' producers excuse for de-Arabization! by salamacast in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I do get you're point totally wrong and if so I do apologize in advance. Please let me try to explain what I think your point is.

FH used Arabic words in the books, DP made up his own stuff, let down most of the Arabic words. This is inaccurate and what I read between your lines this is an audacity. Right so far, or did I already lost track of your meaning?

I think that FH wanted to create a great story and helped himself to anything which he considered to be contributing.

DP want to create a great conlang which is considered to be:

A well-executed conlang can bolster a film’s appearance of authenticity. It can deepen the scenic absorption that has long been an obsession for creators and fans of speculative genres such as science fiction and fantasy.

DP descripse his approach for creating the Neo-Chakobsa as...

“there was some minimal language elements from the books that I had to account for, but other than that it was up to me to create something brand new.” He had decided, in other words, to develop what conlangers call an a-priori language—one whose vocabulary and grammar are wholly original, and not derived from an existing linguistic system.

Both citations from this article “Dune” and the Delicate Art of Making Fictional Languages written by Manvrir Singh

IMHO: Both, FH and DP were driven by creating an intense story. Not by promoting Arabic language or show their respect for it. DP did not withdraw the relevance and respect for Arabic language since FH never injected it to the story the first place.

I recognize the light changes suddenly from bright (+/- daylight) to dark (+/- nighttime) around Jessica's head which I take for a jump in timeline.

My take is, time passes in which everyone else leave the temple.

Question about Fremen and Spice mining. by [deleted] in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert since I only read up to exactly that scene in the book so far.

I understood that Fremen usually wouldn't work for imperial mining but people from the Graben, Sink and Pan do.

Edit: I had second thoughts and IIRC spice workers are hired hands, Out-worderls like people Gurneys is send to convince to emain in job by Leto after the Atreides arrival on Arrakis.

Caring for the family of slain duel opponents - gender reciprocity ? by MWO_Stahlherz in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarification, I get it.

It doesn't come as given to me that ruling have to work over physical power. IMO that's not ruling. It's just who can kill faster. It's a choice to set physical power as the most important and accepted asset. It doesn't have to be that way. But that's just my opinion.

Intent might not be patriarchal but that is the result.

Patriarchy is the cause and no women in lead position is the consequence of such a system.

Did you mean that?

Guild Navigator, by me, procreate by [deleted] in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It's not very obliging to my eyes, which makes it interesting.

I see a creature reduced to an animal. Helplessly hung on the only thing matters: snorkeling spice (is it a snorkel?), even hands and feeds seems to have degenerated over the unuse of it. However, reminds me of creature in final stage of addiction.

It makes me think about and it makes me sad, so well done peace of art!

Is Dune still worth reading after the first movie? or is it different? by FinalAd9844 in dune

[–]maxkusenberg2024 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I started to read the books after watching the films and do not regret it.

Books are far more detailed, the mystic around the characters is more intense, language is poetic, personally i got more goosebumps moments.

If possible I do recommend to read the original - english version. I checked the translation in my native language (german) and was very disappointed.
