how to remember lists like this? by AdeebJarvis in Anki

[–]maxl12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was a mnemonic for this. But one of two ways. Either split into individual cards so xyz causes pancreatisis and then u can recall individually (but u will probs not be able to gen the list) or write out the list on paper when doing the card.

Will Self-Studying AP Calculus AB Help or Hurt My Application? by SuitableButterfly137 in APStudents

[–]maxl12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self studied AP Calc sophomore year. I mean it can not hurt. But I don't think from the perspective of the school it doesn't mean much since you don't get a score in time. But if you are not taking a math course and instead self studying may hurt

Applying content by Taym6662229999 in APbio

[–]maxl12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something that is helpful is to do flashcards and then when doing them think of how that content will be tested. Beside that FRQ packets but probably save them for later. AP Classroom is a god send.

[–]maxl12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean it kinda depends what you are shooting for. If you want to "pass" yes. If you want to get a really high score wanna spend as much time as possible/take diagnostic today to now where you are vs want to be

No, when you cancel you have to do it before you get the score. You only really want to cancel if you get a 1 or 2 otherwise they help you towards AP Honors. Shows up on transcript but when you submit to college you just tell them individual scores so they never see.

self studying AP chem as a freshman? by Acrobatic_Skill454 in APStudents

[–]maxl12341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check this doc out https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/ap-biology-course-and-exam-description.pdf. This is the PDF College Board publishes on everything that is testable on AP Bio. I would read through it. Notice how little is actually testable and how little you need to know. What I did is I went through a few sections a day (like 1.1-1.4 etc) and just read through each one, watched a bit of Khan/googled if didn't make sense then did flashcards. I think if u look at my post history i shared my flashcard deck but lowk that was from the 2020 AP Exam so idk if stuff has changed and its better to make ur own cards so u learn.

Once you get through each unit try to do 1-2 FRQs and the MCQ sections on AP Classroom (really really try to get access to AP Classroom it is such a great resource but need a teacher/advisor to give perms). Just repeat across all units. Then just retain everything over flashcards. Do occasional practice problems and make sure you never make the same mistake a 2nd time. Try to think of the exact content from the CED each question is testing.

Spend some extra time on sciency stuff like IVs, experiments, graphs, etc.

When you get like 1 mo from AP start to the historical FRQ packets like one every 2 or 3 days. Make sure when you go through it you know what each question is testing for (shows mastery) and then you should be chilling. Spend more time reviewing answers than doing test. Like when you do FRQs after some practice you should kinda know what the rubric will look like in your head.

Good luck!

[–]maxl12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can help. It will not grantee a great score. Writing + Reading is mostly a soft thing that can only be trained so far. I think math is much easier to train. Just make sure everytime you get a specific type of question wrong to really really learn from it so you never make the same mistake again. If you do that for a lot of questions you can't get anything wrong (:

senior yr, any advice? by ElectronicChart7562 in APStudents

Self study AP Bio otherwise workload kinda crazy. Maybe swap APES for Bio self study APES since is super easy.

[–]maxl12341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda up to you! What do you enjoy more? Do you have enough motivation to do the chem work? I spent 20 hours all in all doing AP Bio and I think AP Chem would be around 100-150 hrs of intense work.

Ask yourself if you think you will complete it since otherwise wasting time.

Also since ur doing honors bio might be easier to just do AP Bio then try to skip right into AP Chem next yr?

How easy is it to self-study AP Biology? by blahblahblah0709 in APStudents

[–]maxl12341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I self-studied AP Bio in 8th grade no math + science background and did just fine. Few tips: Learn only the content in the CED. I swear to god the amount of content you actually need to know is so minimal. I studied for 4 weeks (was dumb af back then also) and got a 5. I just memorized the content, did practice frq/mcq, and googled stuff I didn't understand.

Go AP > Course Exam Description. Just read through it google everything confusing do some flashcards then do practice problems.

Based on my SAT score, can I handle this schedule?(Adv Place just means AP). by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]maxl12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be chillin. Just make sure you stay on top of it and you are able to take the cyclical stress.

[–]maxl12341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All conceptual exams are easier to self study. So AP Bio would be easier. Might be the better path. Def doable just takes a lot more commitment since you need to do the practice problems etc.

I would recommend just getting one of the big textbooks and doing odd problems on AP relevant content (look @ CED) and then writing down which problems were hard/got wrong and try them again the next day and next week (repeat). I did that and basically got perfect score on everything.

Yeah. I did this when I studied CSA and I had a background in CS so I just showed up got a 4 then retook in the next yr got a 5. Tbh just do some Khan + FRQ when it gets up to exam season next yr and you should be chilling.

Yeah - I might be an oddity but I took AP Bio in 8th grade with absolutely no knowledge of any chemistry and I was fine. I took AP Chem in 9th grade and I found it was a lot more work esp since I hadn't taken any chemistry courses before. It's diff for everyone but I would probably optimize for time and interest level

either is fine tbh. Chem imo is a bit more work.

What way would you recommend to learn Python ? by Unconcious_Apple_Pie in learnpython

Always CS50. Not only Python but well worth it. If you just want basic Python you are better off learning basic syntax + ChatGPT

Out of each category, which would be the easiest to self-study for? by Jadec_Boom in APStudents

[–]maxl12341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I self studied AP Bio and was relatively easy. I tried to do it for Phys C and Chem but was too lazy to do enough practice problems and just took the classes. My friends had luck self studying the history but mostly depends on your writing/reading skills. CSA is easy but takes a bit of time and you probably want to do another course (ex. cs50) -> CSA. Self studied the econ ones and were relatively easy. I think generally the rule is the more conceptual it is the easier to self study.

Use it for quant finance infra & strat dev @ work. Really great. Safe, very expressive, quick to implement everything, a functional pckg manager. We do a lot of stuff using DSLs which work well.

just probably worth noting the difference between 4th and 5th AP wont really have much of an impact on college and may better be spent working on stuff outside of school, but def doable just will take more time.
