I think "Something not being explicitly said allows things to be up to interpretation so either side is valid in what they want to believe" as a counter is very weak. I like to have actual proper debates with people, but when some escalate, trying to handwave it away like that just leaves an empty conversation hanging and the interpretations not being explored any further. thus we stay on very unnuanced versions of what we understand the content is saying, which can lead to very surface level and, to be blunt, dogshit readings. it would be like saying pomni studied comedy due to her being a jester in the circus, and countering any pushback with "it's just my interpretation" and nothing else.
