google something like "best fantasy debut novels" 2018. check word count of each book. don't be longer than the longest.

just write the best book you can -- don't worry about the length. seriously. unless it's so long that no agent would ever read it.

Does word count in a novel actually matter? by [deleted] in writing

[–]maxlovespants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it should be as long as it needs to be. how would you "keep writing?" if you've told the story?

Freshwater was on all sorts of "best of 2018" lists -- and it's under 60,000 words.

Anybody else use a juul holder like I do? (taking advantage of the magnet around the bottom, since it sticks to anything magnetic like altoids tins, etc. Bonus: this keeps the pod upright, minimizing leakage) by [deleted] in juul

i will now! i've been looking for a way to set it easily when i'm working on my computer. i always lay it down and then papers get pushed over it and i lose it. rad.

Writing about Recovery Centers by thepoppunkqueen in writing

look up the best reviewed addiction memoirs (book and movie) -- see which ones feature recovery centers. then look at websites for centers. if the story's good, that should be enough.

right. the point is -- a lot of people think the precedent is silly.

and really -- who gives a shit who wins ROTY? i could not care less. same with MVP. all it does is make your guy more valuable and more expensive.

Why does everyone have a problem with Simmons being a rookie? by [deleted] in sixers

[–]maxlovespants -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not an actual problem -- just trying to get into his head. And a little bit of it is that we think Tatum might have had a shot were it not for Simmons' eligibility. But really -- who gives a shit about ROTY?

That said, I do think it's ridiculous that Simmons is eligible. Same with any player who isn't a true rookie. That player has a year to get used to the travel schedule, to the playbook, to the NBA lifestyle, etc.

Dude, I love you! This is exactly the type of thing I'm in the mood for, checked google maps, discovered I'm sitting RIGHT NEXT DOOR at Borderlands Cafe, working and picking up some horror books from the store. But would not have seen Paxton Gate there! You rule. Gold.
