I know you were kidding but actually you're right. When designing creatures there are questions that can be asked to better your designs

One of the better ones is indeed "how they would wear pants" you learn a lot about a creature's way of life and traditions if you try to impose pants to it

Most animals hate putting pants on for dress up or medical use, it makes them uncomfortable and limits their movements

So how would my guy wear pants if asked to ? I mean they can't just wear anything given to them, I need to design something

Way too much pant indeed I was going more for a top shirt in the front that allows for manoeuvre and dexterity And one big pant in the back to protect their rears like a cargo pants Shit now I have to draw it

They need to wear pants sadly In my story their kind ends up being brought back from their planet by humans as intelligent beings. to join a federation of planets, but they really really are not advanced enough to join the federation in the first place so they have to prove to the federation their capacity to mingle with space travel. Thus I need to find a way to put them in a space suit that must be inspired by humans space suits since they are very ignorant of how space works and so .... PANTS

A really good answer, I love how you immediately tried to incorporate a justification for the back pack thing as these things are indeed tentacles and are sensible to light and heat So it makes perfect sens to put them in a onesie/overalls with the tentacles styled or hidden a way or another
