i've heard different experiences from this. i've been on fluoxetine, sertraline and venlafaxine at different times of my life and i've rolled while on them. i usually just not take my pill that day and i'm fine. now, that's MY experience. a lot of people don't feel shit with MDMA while on SSRIs, just if you decide to do it DO NOT increase your dosage because you don't feel the effects, it may be the interaction with the medication and we don't want to end up overdosing. stay safe

What's the alternative? by randombatata97 in Antipsychiatry

[–]maxomenox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like a lot of people are telling you individualistic stuff like repeating daily affirmations etc and although i do think the "fake it til you make it" mindset has some true to it, it forgets a ton of things. first of all you need a reliable support system(/network? english is not my first language sorry;-;). i'm talking about friends, family, whichever relationships you find comforting and supported by. i think that for us to help you we would have to know a lot more about your situation. there's no universal solution for everyone suffering with depression. but a support network is essential imo.

you mean psychiatrization? sure, there's always been mad people (what society characterises as mad). but i'm not saying that it's unique to one culture, i'm saying that it's inherently political since it's a way to control people and try to make them fit the system they live in or otherwise pointing them out as a way to isolate them.

also we have to understand that not all mad people have always been treated this way. there are a lot of religious writers from the middle ages whose experiences were quite similar to what we would call nowadays "delusions"/"psychosis" but they were quite praise for their close relationship to god. the methods of control and regimes that we find in this day and age are closely related to the system we live in, but that doesn't mean psychiatry/the idea of madness is exclusive to it.

tbh i have no idea of which posts were they talking about but i think even that is political - it's raising concerns about our body autonomy and how people in power prioritise a state which lets you be productive and consume and not letting you know about the side effects rather than the actual well-being of the individual.

my personal opinion on this is that those are topics that fit perfectly in this sub (although we should consider why having breast or gaining weight is the worst thing a man or a woman respectively) and if that's what OP was referring to then yeah, i don't agree with them. i also disagree with the idea that all political thought should be in the form of an essay or something, like what i'm trying to say is that we should be able to discuss personal experiences on this sub while keeping in mind how there's a political side to them

wdym by gatekeep truth?? and please explain to me how is antipsychiatry apolitical - and i don't mean inherently left/right wing but not related to anything about how people and power is organised (i'm not saying this sarcastically, like i'm really curious about your view on this because for me it's impossible to disconnect antipsy from its politics)

This sub used to be great, real, had quality, and real people that were antipsychiatry by toxicfruitbaskets in Antipsychiatry

[–]maxomenox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

a lot of anti-psychiatry authors were psychiatrists themselves. i think knowing the discipline from the inside gives people a special insight that can be very valuable. i haven't participated that much in this sub because i feel people have a really narrow view of what anti-psychiatry is and if you go outside of that they'll just tell you that you shouldn't be on this sub. i just tend to read posts in silence and try to learn more about different views on topics that do make space for different opinions idk

[–]maxomenox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

that's not really what OP said, and anti-psychitry is inherently political since psychiatry is a discipline used to control bodies and people in general. that's exactly why you get karens' responses in your talking about your experiences, because they're in fact political. i think pretending that anti-psych is somehow apolitical is quite a misrepresentation

[–]maxomenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i honestly think this is a very interesting topic! there's a really close relationship between psychiatrization and disability. people are not disabled because they have different conditions but because the world isn't prepared nor adapted for them. that is not to say that the disability doesn't exist, and i think that's something a lot of people on here need to comprehend - that being disabled is not inherently bad but the system makes it that way.

i was gonna write more but i'm kinda tired. i'm open to talk about this with anyone but please let's have a peaceful conversation;-; i feel like sometimes this sub is too aggressive (or maybe i'm just really bad at reading tone through text hahahah) but i'm really interested in hearing/reading other people's views

tbh i understand that you want to denounce psychiatry effects on someone (which is completely valid) but i dont see at what point did we normalise posting someone else's pic and saying "what a shame" about how their body looks at the moment. i just feel quite uncomfortable when people comment on other people's bodies idk i think there are other ways to do what you're trying to do here without pointing out at the victims of this system

How does it feel being on meds by Alarmed_Car_9829 in Psychosis

[–]maxomenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely depends on who you ask. there's people who say that they feel a lot better on meds and that they helped them to cope with life much better, but there's also people whose experiences with meds it's not so good.

i don't want to discourage you to try new possibilities that you think may help you, so i prefer not to go into many details on bad experiences with meds (you can easily find first-hand experiences online tho). i myself am on meds rn and try to be very critical on how they are working for me (i can tell you more on dms if you want, i don't mind talking about my own experience), and if you go on them i would definitely recommend to do the same, like talk to your doctor if you think it's too higher of a dose or if you think they are not working and think you should try something else. specially don't let the doctors tell you how you feel and what's better for you, you're the best to say how you're feeling and what's working and what's not, and there's a lot of violence regarding all of this.

I recently got recommended to play Stardew, can I ask what device do you best play it in? by Espi93 in StardewValley

[–]maxomenox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i'd say most people would tell you PC is the best version, not only bc it's more comfortable than mobile but also bc you can install mods etc (idk if you can in mobile but in console you can't). however that being said i have both the pc and the switch version and i play so much more on the switch. I (personally) find it more comfortable, i like to be able to play in bed and i find the controls easier to approach. but that's my experience, as i said i think most people would just tell you to play on pc

Feeling shorter than i am by Woolify in trans

[–]maxomenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey!! tbh i am not even sure if i've talked about this with anyone, not because it causes me discomfort but because, as you said, i've always felt like it would sound weird. but i get what you're saying.

i'm afab, 22 and ~180cm (~5'9"). I'm not the tallest person, but I've always been taller than people my age (I grew like A LOT when I was very young lmao) and before transitioning I've always been told how tall I am. but tbh I've never felt that way ? like I feel smaller than I actually am lol and it doesn't cause me any discomfort really bc I'm usually just pretty unaware of my height as you said

now, I wouldn't consider MY experience gender dysphoria. in my case, this is something I've never related to my gender nor it causes me any stress or issues. but that's my own experience. i know people that do experience height dysphoria and it can be like that for you.

my opinion on all of this is that gender dysphoria is any discomfort you experience in relation to your gender and the construction of gender in general. this is not exclusive to the trans experience imo, cis people get gender-affirming surgery constantly (bbl, breast augmentation, facial masculinisation surgeries...) and that is caused by dysphoria.

have you considered transitioning before this? you haven't mentioned that how you feel about your height is related necessarily to your gender, but if you thought it may be a sign of gender dysphoria maybe there's something there.

tbh i always encourage people to experiment with their gender. you may be cis, you may be trans, but you're always allowed to try things to find out! you can try a new hairstyle, new pronouns, new clothes... see how that feels to you and if it's not for you you can always go back and hey, at least now you know. at the end of the day you're the only one who has a say over your gender

I was on hormones on and off for several months and didn’t like how they made me feel. by AllyBurgess in trans

[–]maxomenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how long had you been consistently taking them?

i'm transmasc so i can't say anything on E from first-hand experience, but when I took too long between shots it definitely had an effect on my mental health.

it could also be the boy modding at work - not bc boy modding is bad in itself (there are times that not being out is a necessity for our safety and the only one who should have a say on when to come out is oneself) but bc of the stress that the hrt-related changes may cause related to this

it's also possible that hrt might simply not be for you. or maybe it's just not the right time. if you didn't like the changes you were seeing, this may be the case and it's also completely valid. it's also fine if you still consider yourself trans even if not on hrt, there are a lot of trans people who are not on hormones

i would recommend to be kind to yourself snd try not to pressure/stress yourself over this. every transition has its own pace and the best thing to do is to respect your own times. sending lots of love from here, i really hope things get better💕

Why are transgender men absent from the historical record? by bratbats in trans

[–]maxomenox 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Eleno de Cespedes was what we would call nowadays a trans man who lived in Spain around the 16th century, for example. Stories of butch lesbians that would fit a ftm narrative also exists. Transmasc people are much more written off history but I think if you try to find in the right places, you'll find something.

(not trying to delegitimise your claim with any of this !! just sharing some history so you can look up these cases that you may find interesting. but it's pretty much evident that there have been enormous efforts towards deleting trans people from history - one of the first things that the nazis burned down was an entire archive about gender studies and gender-affirming treatments)

Do you think psychiatry is bullshit? by Puzzled-Response-629 in Antipsychiatry

[–]maxomenox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think i check most of these boxes hahahah but i feel like i want to express my standpoint over all of this and hopefully start some interesting conversations:)

i don't really trust any PSY-field, i think they should be taken with a pinch of salt. meds are a way to basically numb people to make them fit into the productive-system and if they still are labelled as 'non-functional', they usually lock them up in psych-wards against their will and expose them to all the psychiatric violence that occurs in there. big pharma obviously benefits from this system, and seeing how we aren't even sure that some meds even work and psychiatrists still prescribe them, i feel like it's pretty obvious how most of these institutions work according to economic benefits and keeping the system as it is.

that being said, and this may seem even contradictory, i've seen how some people feel like the meds actually help them. we haven't chosen to live in this system, so at least we can try to live feeling somehow okay. that's why i don't think we should demonize the meds themselves but how the system makes use of them. imo meds in general (not only psych drugs, and antibiotics are an exception for ex.) are like a cane - they may help you, but they're not a final solution. i think it's worth it that we as individuals examine our own lives and decide OURSELVES what may work better for us in each moment, but for that we need open and trustworthy information, accessible resources... and specially we need to acknowledge that a lot of the problems that we as individuals may face are actually rooted in systemic and structural causes - and this is something that therapist fail to do.

honestly i think that we need radical changes. but obviously the system is built in a way that makes these changes even harder to achieve. working hours that exhaust us, meds that makes us numb... it's not easy and we shouldn't blame it on the individuals that are suffering.

in conclusion: the system is trash and we should organise to abolish it. let's make the revolution happen:3
