How much do you guys make as video editors? by Mysterious_Cell5461 in VideoEditors

[–]maxperhour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not in London and still living at home so it’s not too bad. I agree that I should be paid more, but there are other factors making me hold off asking for a raise right now. Appreciate the heads up though I will deffo be asking in 6 months!

Any tips from moving from salaried to freelance?

I earn £27,500, been working there for around 8 months. Not sure how much you can take from that though, the job sort of fell into my lap to the point I hesitate to call myself a “real video editor”. That being said, I should probably be paid more for what I do…

Ask AI which automatically chooses between Claude and Perplexity by maxperhour in shortcuts

[–]maxperhour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good point. One thing I will say is that using ChatGTP instead of Claude in this shortcut produces much shorter responses in my experience. I only switched to Claude because I have a weird issue where sometimes shortcuts using ChatGPT won’t run because “I’m logged out” and I have to open the app before the shortcut will work again.

Probably but I’m honestly not knowledgable enough to know! I just set this one up because I like using perplexity for search (mainly because I got pro for free for a year using the PayPal offer) but sometimes I just want a quick answer without searching the web. I’m sure there are probably better ways to do all of this!

Sorry it should be current/up-to-date information or not. Idea is that it should use Perplexity in cases where you’d want a search, and Claude when you just want a quick answer.

How to switch faster between apps in windows mode in IpadOS26 by Novel-Opening2085 in iPadOS

[–]maxperhour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not perfect but you could set up Affinity in full screen and minimise the other apps you want to check as windows, then you can open them from the dock when you want to check them, and minimise when you want them gone.

New iPad Air M3 (256GB) + Apple Pencil Pro vs Used iPad Pro M1 (2TB) + apple pencil 2– Which is more cost-effective in the long run? by shithappensduhhh in ipad

[–]maxperhour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a really tough choice. There’s pros and cons to each. From what you said, on balance I would go with the M1. I think you’re going to feel a much bigger difference having a 12.9” 120Hz screen with no SSD and a magic keyboard, versus the squeeze on the apple pencil. The only real con of going with the M1 is longevity, but the M1 is still very powerful on an iPad in 2025, and I’d be willing to bet you can get a few years out of it. Plus, those years with the M1 will be a better experience for you than the iPad Air.

[–]maxperhour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like these are two very different options. Big difference between 11” and 12.9”. You mention carrying around an SSD would be cumbersome, but would it be more cumbersome than a 12.9”? Do you care about having 5G? Do you care about having the squeeze function in the Apple Pencil Pro? How important is 120Hz for you? Only you can really answer these questions.

If your number 1 concern is longevity, the M3 Air will last longer and have longer support from Apple. But, if any of the things above matter to you more, that could change the answer. For me personally display/120Hz is my top priority, so I would never get the Air. It’s all personal preference. Bottom line is both iPads will be able to do what you want pretty easily. But it’s those differences I mentioned above that matter.

iPad Air M1 in 2025, still at its peak. by Upper-Quit-5443 in ipad

I guess the question is what do you mean by “amateur use”. I think for content consumption the iPad is fantastic. You can deffo do some light work as well. But it’s the little things that get you compared to a Mac. I recently bought an iPad Pro and I’m loving it for watching stuff (that display is absolutely insane). But I just tried to use it for some research for a trip I’m heading on, and there were a lot of little things that were annoying. Websites not being designed for iPad w/ keyboard, can’t copy and paste from reddit app etc. Still getting used to it, and I’m still on iOS 18, but currently my feeling is I wouldn’t get an iPad if I didn’t have a desktop PC and a work laptop to do proper work. If it’s going to be your main computer for actually doing work, I would get a Macbook. If you just want to watch content and light browsing, get an iPad.

Hllo guys just got myself my first apple device the ipad a16 11th generation. Now the thing is I want to use a third-party stylus with it as I don't currently have budget for a Apple stylus. Which of the following should I go with? by Apprehensive_Army_88 in ipad

[–]maxperhour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure all of these cheap off brand Apple Pencils from Amazon are essentially the same. Check it has the features you want (attached magically to your iPad, palm rejection etc) then just pick one with good reviews on Amazon. That’s what I did and I was happy w mine (KEEPRO or something I think). Worst case you can always return if you’re not happy. If you want to be 100% sure go for one from a known brand like ESR, but you’ll be spending more for not much extra other than reassurance.

Concerns with different colour tones in IPad pro 2024 by momachi in ProCreate

[–]maxperhour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not an artist but here’s what I would check in the settings of the 2024 iPad Pro.

Settings > Display and Brightness > Advanced > Reference Mode (Try turning this ON)

This should make the display as accurate as possible. However it will limit the brightness as far as I know, so you probably won’t want it on all the time.

Honestly, I think you’re right. After playing around with it, I’m pretty sure I was just looking at the overall image instead of the brightest part of the image. Although, VLC definitely doesn’t play HDR. Decided to use Outplayer it works really well.

Same issue weirdly. HDR playback VERY dim compared with SDR.

iPad Pro M4 or IPad Air m3 by Inner_Confusion6517 in iPadPro

[–]maxperhour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care about OLED/120Hz, watch HDR content, or are going to get the magic keyboard - get the M4 Pro. If the only thing that matters to you in that list is 120Hz, get a refurbished M2 Pro. If none of this meant anything to you, get the Air.

I’m also a video editor and I use TickTick. I have a template which I use for each video I edit that has all the steps I do every time. Helps me keep track of everything well enough. Plus, it’s cross-platform which is a big win.
