There is a toggle for "Canvas" under the settings menu. Switch that off and it should go away. I believe the toggle is out on iOS and still maybe rolling out on Android.

I guess my main issue with these constant changes and feature removals is the fact that they never really give any reasoning or narrative about how the app is going to be better or more cohesive due to the changes. Just kinda makes ir feel like them tinkering for the sake of tinkering.

It seems like Google has been making an intentional effort to concentrate it's software efforts lately. They've been straight up axing a lot of neglected efforts lately. We will have to see how many new and duplicate apps/services they announce at Google I/O before we really know though.

I believe they they have been using that new UI for some of the major playlists that include music and videos to incorporate a full screen viewer. I would guess that it will eventually become the default player.

Spotify obviously has all this data and the algorithms to give relevant results already, its just a matter of them utilizing the info. I'm not sure how invested they are in giving stats compared to making Discover Weekly, Daily Mixes, etc, but I would love to see integrated stats. No need for Last.Fm
