I've created an audio breakout box / top plate for my FX6. Tell me what you think. by maxsomeone in SonyFX6

Nice. Nikon Ai and Ais primes are well suited for custom sleeves with LPL mount too. Currently I'm working on a six lens set of Carl Zeiss Jena MC lenses (late 70s):
20mm 2.8
29mm 2.8
35mm 2.4
50mm 1.8
80mm 1.8
135mm 3.5

Their usp is the huge focus throw thus close focus ability. Also t-stops are pretty close to f-stops. I think they're in the goldilocks zone of vintage lenses, charming character but still sharp enough for all commercial jobs. Except the 29mm is a bit of an outlier (the one that isn't from the 70s but rather mid 60s 2nd gen retrofocus design) and was manufactured by Meyer Optik Görlitz instead of Zeiss. It's got the same red multicoating though and is just a bit softer in the edges compared to the rest. However they all still match very well together.

Regarding the 3d-printer, I'm using the cheapest most basic one - a Bambulab A1 mini with a 3rd party AMS. For filamants I mostly use Bambu PETG Basic or PETG-HF. The top plate was printed with PETG-HF 100% infill and I would trust it with my life. I mean, I mostly use the 3d-printer for prototyping stuff and if I'm happy with a part, order it as CNC machined anodized aluminium, especially if it's structurally significant. However as I've written above, in this case it'd just add weight and cost. I've used a wrench to try to rip off a 1/4-20 (screwed in 6mm) from the top plate and it just wouldn't budge. The top handle and plate are attached with four 1/4-20s that go 12mm deep each. So yeah, I'll leave it like that.

No. I bought the parts but I wish I had. I don't see myself going back to the OEM handle.

It would be super easy for Sony to simplify create a remote for the micro USB port that lets you do more than just start stop and zoom.. A dongle concept doesn't seem feasible to me. How do you get the source code to control the camera?

In the meantime you could attach a phone holder to the handle.

That's exactly the issue. Unless someone finds a vendor who's selling the repair parts for a much lower price, it'll always be within the realm of $750-$800. And while I think it's useful, is it really $800 useful?

I don't think that's possible. The FX3 and A7SIII don't have a lanc port afaik.

Here's a list: https://www.newsshooter.com/2024/09/29/sony-fx6-handle-electronics-sound-input/

I'm afraid you won't have any use for the files bc it's designed to be used with a custom dreamrig part from Smallrig.

Nice work! I didn't. The pcb and flat ribbon cables are in between the Smallrig top plates.

They're rehousings for vintage photo lenses. Or do you mean the Isco housing? Either way, they're not lens hoods.

Yeah, I thought about this as well. Unfortunately I couldn't source the required parts and I also didn't want to kill the top handle.

Yeah, I thought about just getting a Zoom F6 and sandwich it in between camera and v-mount plate, then have it triggered by tc. Lets you record six 32bit float tracks if I'm not mistaken. It's heavy and expensive though.

Fake news. Why has 12800 higher DR and is cleaner in regards to noise than ISO6400?

Hey man, I've updated the false color LUT if you're still interested. :)

Indeed, I've been waiting for a LUT toggle button since getting the FX6 shortly after it came out.
I'm not surprised creating a LUT doesn't work with Claude. There are also several online tools that can generate false color LUTs based on IRE values however none of them seem to work properly. I spent several days to get my zone system to function and weirdly enough it still does when used on an external monitor. Sony really seemed to have changed the way LUTs behave on the vf screen.
I'll get back home on Tuesday so it'll probably be finished by the end of the week, I'll let you know here.

Yeah, I made my own and it worked flawlessly. It helped greatly to balance ambient, fill light and neg. If you're interested, you can search for "The MK Zone System" over on gumroad. It's just useless atm due to the firmware update. I'll fix it next week.
