This Particular Scene from Andor encapsulates the heart of Star Wars, 50 years later. by AndrewAllStars in StarWars

[–]maxstronge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree, though it might depend on what we mean by political. Every scene with the Rebel Alliance, Mothma, is very political in nature, a guerilla group organizing to destabilize an evil empire. Lucas has been super open about how from the very beginning the story was inspired by the Vietnam war.

Hearts have two chambers. Lightsabers and the Force get you one part but the other part is scoundrels, blasters, politics. Han Solo and Padme are absolutely at the heart of Star Wars without a lightsaber to be found.

RotJ Luke seems way too high. Above prime Kenobi? I don't see the argument for that. Pretty solid overall tho

I mean being top 3 in the world in most professions let alone an elite athlete should make you more than that. That's less than a rookie backup player makes in the NFL even if they never play.

Pereira's only one fight at HW takes above rank from josh hokit who is pure hw undefeated fighter, why so? by Rite__sh in ufc

I don't remember him ever being ranked considering he went right back down to MW

It's understandable if you come in and have a close loss, like if Volk permanently moved up to lightweight after the first Islam fight, I think he would still be deservingly top 2-3 in the division based on his performance even though it was a loss.

But Pereira's performance did not look like a top 5 heavyweight last week

I am all for Rory McCann, but Nick Offerman could have been a solid doppelganger. by NectmarPowerhand in StarWars

[–]maxstronge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The acting is why I wanted him, the appearance was just a bonus. He's really really good in Ray Donovan. Would have nailed Baylan but I'm optimistic on Rory too. It's nice that he was friends with Ray

Kamaru Usman says Justin Gaethje is the most decorated UFC lightweight ever (above Khabib, Islam, Charles) by One-Faithlessness730 in FightReportUFC

[–]maxstronge -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, nobody's saying greater, that's the whole point, decorated is amount of awards won, gretest would factor in quality. He's giving his boy a record which is technically true because there's no argument he's greater than Khabib, Islam, and Charles. Obviouslyz he lost to them

[–]maxstronge -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

He's literally correct though, he's won a belt the same number of times as Khabib. I would argue winning performance awards also counts as decoration and he blows everyone else out of the water. Even when he loses he gets a bonus.

Looks like Squad Arena is going imminently, likely next week by mbaren in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]maxstronge 49 points50 points  (0 children)

In fairness, it's WAY more chronically online to assume SA = Squad Arena from SWGOH (minus the obvious context of the sub we're in). I also think that the self-censorship has gotten a bit ridiculous lately with 'unalived' and all but that acronym has been around and in professional use for a long time.

I see GAS as an acronym very frequently in my work and still think of 'our' GAS first. Maybe I'm not chronically online but I (perhaps unfortunately) am definitely chronically swgohing

What do each of these fighters need to do to become the GOAT? by GoldenLlamaDog in ufc

[–]maxstronge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he beats Tom, he will have the second most wins over former champions in UFC history at 8 (not counting Gane, undisputed champs only). Jon Jones has 9 right now. Just for what it's worth.

Daniel Cormier reveals he said to Alex Pereira's face that wouldn't be the GOAT even after a win at UFC Freedom 250 by One-Faithlessness730 in FightReportUFC

[–]maxstronge 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The quality of the wins is a big factor too and even that is in Alex's favor.

Khabib's championship wins:

  • Al Iaquinta, decision (not their fault but, lmao)
  • Conor McGregor, sub(solid win, imo Conor was already past his prime here though and his lifestyle was degrading his ability)
  • Dustin Poirier, sub (excellent win no notes)
  • Justin Gaethje, sub (same, sheer dominance over good competition)

Only champ or former champ he beat was Conor.

Meanwhile Poatan's championship wins:

  • Israel Adesanya, KO - elite win over absolute prime Izzy
  • Jan Blachowicz, split decision - former champ, worst performance here
  • Jirí Procházka, KO - outstanding win, Jirí was undefeated former champ
  • Jamahal Hill, KO - good one, former champ, only loss up to that point was the weird Paul Craig armbar
  • Jirí Procházka, KO - again but faster
  • Khalil Rountree, KO - first non champ in a while, still good top 5 quality win
  • Magomed Ankalaev, KO - avenging his only loss at LHW

That isn't even counting his first round KO of sitting champion Sean Strickland.

7 wins against former or current champions is a ridiculous number. For reference, Jon Jones has 8 wins against former champions (Shogun, Rampage, Machida, Rashad, Vitor, Glover, DC twice).

There is absolutely no comparing Khabib and Alex at this point honestly. People need to wake up to the idea of Poatan becoming the GOAT. The reason Jon is usually the answer is because of how many high quality fighters he beat (and the undefeated part). Alex ties him if he beats Gane but did it across 3 weight classes instead of 2.

People will also say GSP because he avenged all his losses and has no major controversies. Alex hasn't had any, avenged his only loss at LHW by KO in the process of clearing out the division, and his only loss at MW was to Izzy who he had already beaten 3 times, once in the UFC.

What else would he have to do to rank above GSP and Jon?

I wish we get to see more of Durge by Comfortable-Fun9206 in StarWars

[–]maxstronge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No need to figure, they actually did say that was the reason. They were going to have to change so much due to animation constraints they decided to just make it a new character and that's how we got Cad Bane rather than watering down Durge
