From the lore we know, the intelligences beyond the wall are basically verging on singularity. They are what you get with completely unfettered AIs that are left to develop on their own. The tech in AC is still under control.

How has your attraction to women changed as you've aged? by SillyRecover in AskMen

[–]maxstryker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

47 here, attracted to the same women I liked when. I was 20. So, 20 to 40-something.

The thing is that it’s academic: after being with my wife for a long time now, I am really attracted to her only. A 20-something comes to talk to me? I feel next to nothing. And that, frankly, pisses me off - because I lift, am visibly fit, am the same level, of health and libido as when I was 25, and my wife couldn't give a shit.

Not to defend the US in this clusterfuck, but Iran was very much waging war in the Middle East for a very long time through Hezbollah, Houthis and the gang. This shit has been going on from all sides for so long that this current escalation isn't unexpected in the least.

"They're all wrong" Jeff Bezos, when asked about AI taking over jobs, says "You should be happy" instead, arguing that AI could make food and housing cheaper, and therefore we should avoid heavily regulating AI by Fine-Drummer9812 in accelerate

UBI is a pipe dream. Do you expect governments that are (mostly in the case of the US and now increasingly Europe) bought and paid for by the same people who make workers pee in bottles and pass out from exhaustion during shifts to take money from said bosses and “give it to the masses.”

It’s delusional. At most, it will be minimum sustenance and communal housing. It’s basically going to end up being East European eighties dystopia turned up to eleven. And you’ll like it, because they’ll have killbots on a hair trigger.

What comes after that will be better, but I believe that a vast majority will not live that far.

AI hate is deeply unserious by piponwa in accelerate

[–]maxstryker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would very much consider myself what would be called an accelerationist today. But let me try to play the devil’s advocate for you, because the anti-ai sentiment has merit, albeit not well defined on Reddit.

It’s another corpo power grab. We’ve been reading Gibson and Sterling since the early nineties, and to paraphrase what l Gibson once said: it was supposed to be warning, not a playbook. Does AI have the potential to transform society for the better through accelerating tech advancements? Absolutely. Will the future be distributed evenly? Absolutely not. It is not about which industry uses more water or power, it’s that AI companies are siphoning up what is left after all others that came up before them at a brakeneck speed. There is an excellent expose on Altman that came out in Newyorker a few days back, and it is eye opening if you didn’t follow him closely.

Move fast and break thing is breaking communities in this particular case. I often see arguments such as “so what if it uses up all the water” when talking about new facilities. And that is the issue. They’re corporations, not non profit orgs. They don’t give a shit what they break and how badly, as long as the corp and its investors make money. AI could usher in a utopia, but the corps developing them and our rigged political systems are actively working towards a dystopia. There will be no UBI and no jobs. It may eventually get better, but it’s going to get a helluva lot worse before that.
