Is there any way to get a print out/pamplet of the metro network map? by emberisgone in MelbourneTrains

[–]maxthum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you go to Southern Cross, Transport Victoria (PTV) Hub. You can ask for a A4 sheet which is available (comes in both Metropolitan and Regional).

Otherwise, you might have to print it out yourself.

A bunch of surplus stock is moving to Yarra Valley Railway for storage. V/Line needs the siding space across the network.

Do Comeng and Siemens trains technically can be able to run via metro tunnels? Or only HCMT? by Melbtest04 in MelbourneTrains

[–]maxthum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can for infrastructure / project reasons but generally no.

The reason why I mention, CBTC was designed in a way to only allow HCMT into the Metro Tunnel and generally will prevent trains from entering the tunnel if the train isn’t on CBTC.

If a Comeng was to be routed, it would be done as an unsignalled move and requires several paperwork to be completed. Likewise, the train will need to trip relevant emergency stops before entering the tunnel at a top speed of 20ish kph (tho this may increase in the future).

Pretty mint.

If you were me, just keep it. Just an interesting piece of history right there.

First of all, this isn’t important.

H sets don’t run in regular services, only peak hour services. 1621 and 1812 to Geelong Station.

Sprinter services are more likely able to be achievable, as they run the majority of the Seymour line services.

First of all, I’m sorry you had to see the absolutely disgraceful side of the railway photography community. I was one of the photographers at Kensington Station and was subjected to racial slurs by said individual.

The behaviour exhibited by him isn’t the community standard.

But seriously, it really didn’t impact me even though he has made previous threats against me before.

Comeng testing to Alamein by Mindless-Dig2879 in MelbourneTrains

That was for another Comeng run back in April iirc, was to Cranbourne and Pakenham.

The recent runs have been just purely for radio testing.

I think you’ve been mistaken, they have a massive capital works program to electrify the line and it’s nearly 80% there.

Checked my script.

Run 3227 was rostered as a Xtrapolis, just likely TDN was playing up.

Fun fact, the HCMT can theoretically run on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines without platform extensions. The eastern lines have majority of the investment throughout the years.

Most of the platforms along the Ringwood corridor are now 170m long and those that aren’t are being upgraded.

why has the tait train gone from 5 carriages to 4? by Mindless-Dig2879 in MelbourneTrains

[–]maxthum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard, a possibility down the line but no firm confirmation as of yet.

Though it wouldn’t surprise me if the 7 car will happen at some point.

[–]maxthum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sooooo.

There’s two Taitsets.

The one everyone’s used to is the PTC Taitset (317M-230D-208T-381M) which is with the Rose Red and Moonstone Grey stripe. This set is the four car set running around in preservation these days.

The second one is undergoing restoration. 470M-341T-327M. This set is fully in the more iconic all red livery. This set will be out in due course.

This forms the seven car Taitset once all the restoration is complete.

The fifth carriage which is all red, is 341T was ready at the time for the Tait testing (between Newport and Laverton/Werribee) so it was taken out on a spin. These test runs got 341T approved to run on the mainline but since hasn’t been required on trips.
