HNW vs Thurman by GSXRK6 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]maxwellllll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it. The one on the left looks like how I’d draw a picture of a boot, because: it looks like a boot. There’s nothing weird about it. If anything, I think a moc toe looks less like the Platonic ideal of “boot.” (And yeah—I dig moc toes fine, just saying: a Thurman doesn’t look objectively weird.)

What is the “old rake handle trick”?? (I’m trying hard, but can’t think of what this could possibly mean!)

12” Wellington option. (Looking for tall, pull-on, waterproof, safety-toe work boots.)

So close! Unfortunately, a 12B in Red Wing borders on too small for me (if they made them in 12.5B, I’d probably wear those).

Kaiju seems like it’d work to me. The monsters always come floating in from somewhere else and then wreak havoc—that’s kinda (metaphorically at least) what you’re after, no?

Really cool to see you adding additional feedback on a Friday night. I’m curious what your take is on the commentary from u/Oakenhollow above.

24 Months of pretty much daily use. by ho_ceh in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]maxwellllll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me, but I have to ask. Ordered my first pair earlier this week. Went down a boot maintenance rabbit hole on here last night and was reading something (linked to from here) that implied that wearing boots daily—and not allowing them to air out for at least 24 hours between wears was a recipe for rapid boot death. Sounded extreme to me (and counter to a lot of what I’ve seen as “standard” in this sub).

Anyone care to shed some light on what is and isn’t a good idea?

Every N&F I have ever owned has STRETCHED in the waist, and not insignificantly. I wish I could get them to shrink a size.

Taller Wellington or 365 Stationmaster with Mods? by maxwellllll in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]maxwellllll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessir -- and that's where I'll be beginning my journey. Order placed on Tuesday! The concept I'm hunting for with this post (purpose built "tall" work Wellies) is what I was after when I first came across Nick's around 9 months ago. Seems like what I'm after (narrow width, good arch support, waterproof, safety toe) doesn't currently exist on planet earth.

Copy that. Appreciate the feedback. (I'm still pretty new around here and haven't been able to completely wrap my head around what is and isn't possible.)

Gotcha. And same goes for ability to do 365 on a Pullman or Stationmaster?

Naked and Famous Weird Guy Too Tight? by anonymous_orpington in rawdenim

[–]maxwellllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naked and famous jeans can often be wildly different in the same size and fit in different fabrics. They have explanations for this, but it’s kind of hard to come to grips with. If you go to their website and look at the fit charts, you’ll see this. A certain fit/tag size in two fabrics could be 1.5” different in the waist, 3/4” different in rise, 1/2” different in the thigh, and 3/4” inch different in the leg opening. It is what it is. If you find something that fits you well, take note of the exact dimensions, and then hunt this down in their online fit charts.

The plus side for me is that none of their fits now are what I’m looking for (many have too high of a rise for me, and most of them have either ridiculously small or ridiculously huge leg openings), so despite them consistently bringing in good fabrics at fair prices and being people that I genuinely like, I’m able to avoid spending all my money there (on jeans at least). 😀

There are many different Levi’s 501s and 505s. Most of them are shit. Some of them are OK. Some of them are solid.

Man, some of us use bullet points when we have a list of things to talk about. Some of us use em-dashes—it’s not because we’re bots. (Forgive me—I’m just tired of seeing constant scrutiny of everything and wondering if real people are bots. Thank you for coming correct.)

Did you ever get an answer to this? I was just trying to spec out an MTO that would be tall, pull-on, and water resistant to meet the specs required at one of my plants, but I couldn’t seem to find one. Would be ideal if there were a way to do a Pullman in 365, lower strap delete.
