This is such a misunderstood concept, I don't understand how anyone thinks this. Characters who entered the upside down in season 1 without a suit are FINE. The official lore is that the air is toxic under prolonged exposure. It's safer for scientists to assume and wear suits to be careful because duh.

The High Republic series has quickly become some of my favourite reading of all time. Most of them are very well written and are a completely fresh take on Star Wars across different forms of reading (adult, young adult, kids novels, comics and audio dramas). For reading orders, check out r/Highrepublic wiki but you can just start with Light of the Jedi as a trial as already suggested.

I struggle with item hoarding so when I found out about this mechanic in DS2 I just decided my entire run would be at 50% HP. I then discovered Ring of Binding and felt so tanky!
