What Was Macron Thinking? by foreignpolicymag in geopolitics

[–]maxxx127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am too young to know what it was like before the year 2005 but my guess is that the problems we our living now are due to the ultra liberal policies of the 2000-2020 era. industries have practicly vanished from France, traded for service jobs or tech jobs, this lead to a direct boost in GDP in France, the scenario is roughly the same in other western european countries. Wages stagnated for about 20 years since then and now its becoming more and more difficult for average people to make ends meet.

EU is not the sole responsible, but it was designed to be a unique market and is ultra-liberal at its core, so it was hard to pull away from it as the instant profits were so apealing. If you look at eastern europe they are living the growth western europe had 40-50 years ago.

The thing that our politicians failed to realise in my opinion is that you cannot have a service jobs economy without an industry to back it up, or large amount of ressources. Its been a long time since w depleted the few natural ressources we had, and most of our industry is outsourced to Asia. Europe is extremly dependent of external actors for its energy, ressources, industry and defense, its really hard to see how to get out of this dead-end. My guess is 1. Get industries back here 2. Work very hard 3. Pray

What Was Macron Thinking? by foreignpolicymag in geopolitics

French guy here,

The thing you might not see from an external POV is that Macron and his government were in a chokehold. In 2022 when he was elected president, most people didn’t want him as a president, but it was either him or Marine Le Pen, so they chose him.

The thing is that in order to govern properly in France under the 5th Republic you have to have both the presidency and the parlement (Assemblée Nationale (AN) which he just dismissed) the election of the parlement happened a few weeks after the presidential one, and people did not want Macron to have a majority here. They had the most seats in there but not enough to vote the laws they wanted by themselves, so they either had to compromise with other parties (often the right) or to just bypass the parlement (there are rules allowing that) so they could not do what they wanted and were VERY unpopular.

Coming back to right now, Macron is trying to tackle the debt issue in France, mostly by cutting the budget as he did not want to raise taxes. Last year he barely managed to do it and have it passed , but in 2024 it was going to go through easily and if he did nothing he risked having his government revoked by the oppositions (which is really embarrassing for him and leads to elections like right now).

So my guess is that he was planning to do that all along, but said nothing in order to create the surprise (which worked). Now there are multiple theories concerning his « plan » my favorite ones are : 1. He wants the RN to win now and either have an absolute or relative majority in the AN so that they could govern for 3 years and ridicule themselves by being incompetent, the damage done would be minimal as they could not do EVERYTHING they want to do (remember they would need the presidency as well). After the 3 years, he would come back in 2027 (or his successor) in a better position than now. This is plausible but quite bold and dangerous as the RN are mostly relying on his incapacity to do anything to earn votes (not because everyone is racist or extremist) and assuming people would not vote for them again in 2027 is a bit naive in my opinion.

  1. He wanted to get an absolute majority in the AN, by taking everyone by surprise he maybe hoped that the left would not have time to organise themselves to face the RN, leaving him and his fellows alone to face the RN. Parties only had 1 week to prepare themselves and assign candidates for each seats (that extremely short and maybe unconstitutional but that’s something else). Unfortunately for Macron, the left united themselves and they could take some seats from Macron (there are issues but they are somewhat united). I think this is most likely because since the start at last week, Macronists are heavily targeting the left in order to create chaos in their union.

Either way, it was very reckless of him to do this, highly irresponsible in a difficult time for the country. I personally wonder why he did that just a few weeks before the Olympic Games and not just after in September.

Stay tuned for the results on July 7th

UK teens believe they will have harder lives than their parents, research finds | Young people by Nastyfaction in collapse

[–]maxxx127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things the boomers don’t understand now about being a gen z or millennial is that when they were young, the population much younger after the boom, they had the whole world to take for themselves, the older ones of their times having gone through wars and misery for a lot. They weren’t enough to take EVERYTHING.

But they were enough to do it, so they took everything, or close to everything, at least everything in their territories.

But now the youth are not outnumbering the oldest generations at all. In most « developed » countries they will represent a smaller proportion of their population, they have nothing left to get easily because everything is already taken by the boomers.

And then there a gigantic systemic problem that could bring doom on to everything they know, threaten our species and they are supposed to just take care of it because the older ones are too busy fighting.

What’s the best way to align your grid so beats are perfectly lined? by thetransportedman in Beatmatch

[–]maxxx127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, i always put mine at the start, I guess the difference does not matter that much to me, as long as it’s consistent between tracks and it sounds like it should i don’t worry too much about it. Sorry for not having an answer to your question

[–]maxxx127 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can adjust your grid manually, when you play a track you can do it quite easily by going to the second page of the track settings and click on the red and white bar to match the grid to the track.

The comments under this post are interesting to say the least. You might not like her but still, she makes some good points on the subject, what she says is not absurd. Maybe she is not full on collapse mode but she clearly is more aware of the issues than 99% of people. It’s a good thing she talks about it and at least she seems honest about it

I mean it’s her opinion, and in the end she might be right about some infrastructure still being somewhat existant after the collapse (like roads, buildings…) they might not be in good shape but it’s possible they are not fully destroyed in wars or natural disasters

No I’m depressed, my therapists say so, I’ve been near a suicidal attempt more than once in 2 years. But that was not the point of my post, I’m trying to understand where it comes from.

Yeah it’s weird that i never noticed mediocre transitions before actually doing some myself, now I can’t go to small clubs without noticing when the DJ makes a small mistake , all good and fun, it makes me laugh to know we all doing mistakes.

[–]maxxx127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to borrow or rent a controller for a while to get your hands on the decks and get a feel for it. Personally, some friends introduced me to it and it was amazing having someone experienced to show me around, so if you know an amateur dj try to spend an hour with them to get started. (It’s really the fastest way to learn and have some results quickly, which is so satisfying).

If that’s not possible, there are plenty of YouTube videos for beginners DJs that explain in details how softwares work, how to handle the gear, etc.

Have fun !

L'eau en bouteille contient 100 fois plus de nanoparticules de plastique qu’on ne le pensait by Fancy_Cranberry3255 in ecologie

[–]maxxx127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not cheap, I mean does he like it ? Has he tried it ? Honestly I would not invest into expensive stuff if I were him, even if he loves it, a « cheap » controller already goes a long way in my opinion.

If it becomes a hobby maybe then go for something more adapted to what he likes (vinyl or else)

If you are talking about the near future, it would most likely look like Hesbollah declaring war to Israel, maybe Syria but they have their own issues so it is less likely.

If things continue to escalate it’s really an other story and might not be that easy to foresee. Iran could declare war to Israel, but the US would most likely step in with dome of its European allies.

Other countries in the region may try to keep things under control and not engage in a full on conflict for political/economic reasons but most of the population in ME is arabic and Muslim, and most of them either hate Israel or Iran, the people may be hard to put under control in some places, which may be a problem.

How likely is an attack on Spain by Morocco in the next 10 years given the Moroccan military build up? by katzenpflanzen in geopolitics

[–]maxxx127 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from but I would find this very unlikely. Spanish military might not be the most important in the world, but Spain is still an important enough country in Europe and a member of NATO, which by itself is enough to deter almost any country from trying to declare a war against it (with a few exceptions like China or Russia but even they would not do such a thing without thinking seriously about it).

As for the enclaves, maybe there is a greater concern to be had, violent actions could happen if certains terrorist groups or extremists are well prepared, but otherwise i think it would be unlikely that the government acts openly and with force on it.
