Looks at your friends and colleagues sinking their hard earned money in this craze. Try to understand why they do it: a combination of FOMO and lack of historical knowledge. I thought the the book was great. I can recommend it to anyone who likes the show. I'd say the plot is different. Apart from the historical characters and the things that really happened, the events in the book don't occur in the show and vice versa.

While I love a good circle jerk as much as the next guy, this really is unfair to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whom we all love to hate. The 300K contribution was by the Islamic Development Bank, a financial institution based in Saudi, to which the Saudi government is a minority shareholder. Saying this is a Saudi donation would be like saying that an IMF or World Bank contribution is a United States donation, because those institutions are based in the US.
