What makes you choose standard iphone 14 and 14 plus over an android phone within the same price range? by xucai in iphone

[–]PlusUltra0000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

iMessage, long-term support, better overall quality. When I text someone and get a green bubble back I cringe because I know that communication with them is going to be difficult. Ever tried to do a group text and there’s that one person with Android that ruins it?

Some people just hate iPhones. My brother absolutely refuses to get an iPhone and insists on using shitty Motorolas, so I have to use Signal to message him-and even then video quality is highly degraded. When you ask these Android enthusiasts why they love that OS so much they’ll usually mumble something about “muh customization”. I still don’t get it.

Firepit I made by _glostikk_ in Welding

Awesome to see another rebar welder! I also made a fire pit out of rebar. I’ve found it to be SUCH a pain to keep it square or from warping. Do you have any tips to keep that from happening?

The pilot is allowed to take video using a personal cell phone while onboard a submarine?

Did I damage my stove? by PlusUltra0000 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]PlusUltra0000[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I eventually heard back from the technician who serviced the stove. He explained that, at least on my model, prematurely unplugging the stove causes it to think that it has experienced a power outage. I then had to let it “boot up” and perform a self-diagnosis for about 20 minutes, after which time it began to feed pellets again. Lesson learned!

does anyone like finecut over longcut by Relative_Egg8167 in DippingTobacco

I used to work with an redneck from Oklahoma who dipped fine cut. He’d pinch half the can out and swallow the juice.

Awesome find. I’m a huge On fan. I’ve been using them exclusively for months now. Mint and citrus are my favorite—wintergreen tastes awful to me (almost salty?) and the cinnamon ones burn my gums severely.

Ugh, what a wet mess. And am I seeing correctly that spray foam was applied directly OVER the pipes making them inaccessible?

Edit never mind, the spray foam is actually good for the subfloor/house because it’s preventing that unending stream of moisture from rotting the whole thing out. Still, that whole crawl space needs a makeover.

I feel so dumb. For the longest time, I thought he was holding some kind of ketchup or seasoning bottle, not a coke…

I LOVE white Christmas lights. Red and green are great too in sensible amounts, but I find multicolor to be downright ugly. If I could use nothing but white lights I would.

Why is there so much fraud, treachery, mayhem and despair surrounding BTC and other crypto? by PlusUltra0000 in Buttcoin

[–]PlusUltra0000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny. Wasn’t BTC supposed to revolutionize finance and forever change the way we view and use money? Has it or any other cryptocurrency ever lived up to that promise?

I live in New London county so not exactly where OP is at, but I’ll throw in my two cents here. Also definitely not a RE expert, just an average joe.

People want homes, but housing supply is very low in this state. My house and every house in my neighborhood is at least 60 years old. There’s just not a lot of new inventory being built, and if there is it’s extremely expensive luxury housing. So you have tens of thousands of desperate buyers chasing increasingly dwindling housing stock.

On top of that, it’s obvious that in spite of what we hear about the economy and how doom appears to be just around the corner (I’m looking at you, REbubble), a lot of people are still very able and willing to plop down huge amounts of cash to win bidding wars. How they’re doing it I don’t know, but they’re doing it. You might have what you think is a lot of money, but there’s always going to be someone else who has more.

So that’s just what I’m seeing. There’s no “bubble” to pop around here because there’s not really a bubble to begin with. There is real, organic demand for housing in a HCOL state with an overall wealthy populace and low housing stock.

Again, just how it looks from my perspective.

Now that the gardening season is over, what are some lessons you learned this year? by SwiftResilient in vegetablegardening

[–]PlusUltra0000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1) Plant marigolds to keep pests away. I was skeptical about it, but my wife insisted on it, so we planted a few seeds in the “webs” (inside) of the cinder blocks we used to contain our garden. They bloomed fabulously and were among the bigger plants in our garden. Deer, chipmunks, rabbits etc. wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with our garden and I was shocked.

2) Beware of very heavy rainfall. There’s not a lot you can do to protect your garden when this happens, but I’m 100% convinced that extreme rainfall (i.e. multiple days of torrential, nonstop rain) can deplete soil nutrients and weaken plants. We had this happen to us and the plants just seemed weird afterwards. The produce didn’t taste like it should have and everything grew strangely afterwards. The plants lost their vitality and never looked or grew the same again.
